wheelies 600 vs. 1000
I have a 97 GSX-R 600 and when i do wheelies i have to be in first gear and get it up to about 8 or 9 grand rpm's drop the throttle and throttle it up then it bounces up and it drops then i drop the throttle again and throttle it up then it gets up but have diffiucties keeping it up then i dont know how to clutch it up kinda scared .. so help me there then back to 1000's can u just throttle them up easy without have to bounce it up cause im thinking about getting an 05 gixxer 1000 and i wanted to know if it is easy to throttle up and bigger bike.......thanks

Listen to the man...
I was trying pow-pow-power wheelies for about a month and a half with no real improvement. Then I literally said f**k it! and started trying to clutch it. About 2 hours later I could do a wheelie high enough to scare myself every time I tried. Now I don't get scared anymore, and I'm working on clutching second. The only reason I put wheelies down now is because first gear is too short...or I'm running out of road.
Here's a tip...to learn to clutch in first, just roll about 15-20 mph, pull in the clutch as you roll on the gas about another 1/4 turn, then immediately drop the clutch while holding the gas open. You should do all this about as fast as you change gears while just cruising down the road...maybe a bit faster. Since you're only adding a little more gas...you most likely will NOT do a wheelie this at this speed, with this much throttle...but you'll get the feel of clutching and you'll know what to expect. Then, when you want to actually try and get it up...same thing, but hit the gas harder when you pull in the clutch.
Good luck with it man, and remember that doing a clutch wheelie, even for the first time, isn't scary so much as it makes you feel, "Hell yeah, that was simple!"
And hey Crtchrktrdr...do you guys still practice on Sundays? It's so fuggin hot out during the day I've been going out at night... I need your guys' help getting second gear down...I just keep mouse-trapping.

Re: wheelies 600 vs. 1000
I work Wed. night, but what about this weekend? And...whats your number? I never put it in my phone...because I'm a dumbass. And Ken's in Seattle for the next two weeks, so I can't get it from him.
I just remembered...you guys haven't ever seen me clutch it, I was still pow-powing it last time I was out with you guys.

Powering up is workable and not garbage to me...I know a few guys that can power right up to BP quick. I can power my R1 up real quick at about 50-55 and level off nice and high its easy.--(Of course you have to be smooth and practice this a lot) I only clutch high chairs and everything on my 929.

Re: wheelies 600 vs. 1000
Seems like you already made up your mind but I'll add mine too.
I used to blame my bike for poor wheelies so I traded it out for the 954, and granted I love it but it set me back a LONG **** time. I'm just now back to where I was when I traded my old ride.
Stick it out with what you got. You'll get better faster. FACT
