MX Bars loosening up

I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. My bars are loosening up on the clamps. I put tape on them and put locktite on the bolts but after 10-15 mins my bars are so loose the just spin in the clamps. It sucks, any advise?

Re: MX Bars loosening up

personally I say take em off!!!! No, but back to the actual question, if the clamp itself isn't loosening, the bars just turn in the clamp without the bolts actually backing out, you may want to roughen the clamping area up a bit if the bars aren't knurled. If the bolts are backing out, they make several different strengths of loctite, maybe try a stronger one, or I know that on upper level dirtbike upper triples, the are mounted with some hard rubber somewhere to kill the vibrations, so maybe find some really hard rubber spacers, and put them in-between the bar clamp pieces and the triple when you bolt them down. My friend who has mx bars doesnt have this proble at all so who knows....

Re: MX Bars loosening up

buddy had the some prob with his, clamps were staying tight but the bars would move around inside. We just ended up drilling a whole through the clamps and into the bars a little, and then just tapped the whole and put a small bolt through. He's never had a problem again.

Re: MX Bars loosening up

I am running TAG clamps and have not had them loosen on the bars in over 6 months. If you are having this problem you should fix it as fast as you can. I am w/ Truestunna, drill a hole in the top half of each clamp and thread it. Then put a bolt in there to use as a set screw. This should keep the bars from turning.

Re: MX Bars loosening up

I'll give that set screw idea a try, after i try some stronger lock-tight. I am running LSL clamps right now and i hope i can get it sorted out quickly..

Re: MX Bars loosening up

I am running the high strength (red) loctite on my TAG clamps. Haven't had a problem yet.
