1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

I am just starting to stunt.... I am trying to do firsrt gear wheelies at about 25 30 mph.... How did you all get over the fear of leting the bike come all the way to balance point then catching it with the break..... How long did it take you for that fear to go away..... Any tips would help...... Do you think before the summer is over I will be able to ride it at balance point consistantly......

well "BILLY" tie the front end of your bike to a tree with a marine rope and ride away from the tree and youll hit the balanc point no problem withouot having to touch your back brake

Re: 1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

its all in pratice..1st gear takes a smooth throttle hand and a lot of seat time to get.

Just do it every day for the rest of the summer. You won't even remember when you couldn't do it.

Re: 1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

for me it was the rear brake part of it that i still havent got yet. I can clutch it straight to balance point but i have practically zero brake control i usually cant keep it up long. But ya just go out and practice and its easier standing.

Re: 1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

It's hard, I can hit it but not every time, and every time I go out it takes me 20 minutes to get to the point where I feel comfortable bringing it back.

I hope after a few more weeks I'll be able to launch it into the balance point every time from a stop so I can work on brake. It's just been really tough overcoming my instincts.

Re: 1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

I learned Second Gear Stand Up's first. I could obviously pop a wheelie in first but could not ride it for crap. Second gear comes up a little slower and it less twitchy. After I learned balance point on second it was easier to realate to the balance point in first...

Re: 1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

dude, it's a thing every person goes through, some find it easier than others.... i took me forever to get over the wheel coming up thing.... but over time you naturally get it higher, you throttle becomes more smoother and you'll learn the rear brake thing.

As it was said above, do it everyday, keep at it... don't go and try to ride bp wheelies straight up, start small and go from there...

Good luck dude, and wear ALL ya gear.

Re: 1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

fiddy will only help so much, u can use throttle on your big bike to keep it in bp, but a fiddy u hit brake a lot... if u'r doing 1st gear, u can clutch it a good amount up, and work it into bp, what helped me the most was listening to the bike itself, listen to the rpms start to slow down and come to a stop at one steady speed.. small throttle movements, you can even keep steady pressure on the brake, and just use the motor to push against it

Re: 1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

I used to not actually stunt and was afraid to clutch it up high to the balance point, but these past couple weeks or so I have just said screw it and clutched it up and gotten it to bp. Youll know when you hit it, you feel like you are gonna flip but then once you hit it more and more youll know how to react to it. I cant ride wheelies long, still working on brake control but I have flipped my bike 3 times now trying it. You just got to get out there and not be scared.

Re: 1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

You should get a 50 with a clutch, I have my old RM60 with a clutch and I can ride out a BP wheelie sortof far and I can barely pop up my friends clutch-less 50.

Re: 1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

i learned to ride bp in 1st after 2 days of tryin.. its really easy, especially with so much motor braking. the brake is insurance in first gear for when you get WAYYY back, you should be able to dip in and out of bp just with throttle

as for the fear i look at it this way... your 3 ft off the ground goin the same speed as bicycles...

can you ride bp in 2nd yet??? it was easier for me to learn 2nd gear, then i learned 1st

Re: 1st gear wheelies( getting over the fear)?

I just started to try and learn slow stuff this week... I'm not even trying to ride out a wheelie at this point. I'm just launching over and over, trying to get the launch on lock.
I can ride a wheelie up to bp, but I'm powering it up and going too fast by the time it gets there. I want to get bp off the launch and keep it under 10 mph. So I pretty much look like a squid out there right now, doing little 1-3 ft. short wheelies over and over. But I'm having fun so to hell with it, and I KNOW it will just click.... eventually.

The bike I am riding is 15 up and 2 down.... I am just learning, is the gearing making it harder for me, if I put the stock rear sprocket on will it be easier to learn..
