'00 6R homemade 12 bar

Just curious as to what you guys think of this attempt. Haven't gotten the bike out yet to see if it is stable or not, hopefully sometime next week.

Re: '00 6R homemade 12 bar

I have it bolted on, that way I could just drill new holes if I needed adjustment. The back bolts are in the factory holes, and the front are inbetween the V on the middle of the subframe. I used another piece of steel and have it bent on the top and bottom so the 12 bar doesn't pivot...at least I hope so! In the pic below, I hadn't bent the tabs over, so you can see them sticking up.

I am actually off work now, but I can't get to our spot to try it because my truck brakes are shot. Maybe I will just go play in my street to see how it works...I am dying to know!

Here's a better pic of the mounts. You can see the piece bent over and the bolt at the back...dammit, I hope I get the time this weekend!!

Also included a couple more angles...just to show off!!

Re: '00 6R homemade 12 bar

I see quite a few guys are running homemade bars. I was wondering what kind of research has to go into building a 12 bar. How did you figure the proper length and angle to get a true 12 o'clock? Everyone cannot be standing the bike on-end to figure out where 12 is. Let me in on the secret!

you stand at the back of the bike and just measure from the back tire give or take a few inches depend on if you want to do coasters or not

Nice, it's a good design that it comes out the tail light hole, so you don't have to cut the fairing. I would love the similar design to my 954, probably gonna make one some day, probably gonna make it round ended design. I don't do bar tricks, Just would want to have something to hit before the tail.(when I learn to scrape the tail)

i took some flat bar, made the side peices and bolted them on. then took something like a yard stick and held it to the side of the "12 bar" so it would hang straight down, then marked the side peices so i could get the right angle. then stood it up to make sure it was the right length. ground a little off at a time till it was were i wanted it, then welded the scrape bar accross the 2 side peices. stood it back up to make sure it was good, and welded everything up. came out great, but i havent scraped it yet. i ttok it off so i could ride the bike to work. ill post a pic tonight.

Re: '00 6R homemade 12 bar

Ok, first the easy stuff...the dew bottle is my overflow. With the FI cage the stock overflow has to come of, and it was convenient!

As for the red, it didn't used to be my favorite color. As a matter of fact, I hated it...attracts cops and all. But my '91 was red and yellow and when I got gear, I got the First Gear jacket in red, so when I got my '03, it had to be red cuz I wasn't buying new gear. The '00 just happened to be the same color. My truck was one of the companies old work trucks and they are all red...just used to it now I guess....and the trailer is next!!

When I made my bar, I wedged the two pieces of flat stock up betweent the sub and the fairings and marked the bolt holes, drilled them, them bolted them up. I used a 2' level and held it upright from the back tire and made a mark. I moved the mark back an inch and cut it there. I measured several times before I made the final cut, just to make sure it would all be straight. I did have to remove part of the undertail and I had to cut the rear fairing a little where it would tuck in around the tail light, but it is a pretty clean cut and you don't really notice. No way I would ever get a tail light back in there, so I would have to put a LED if I wanted to make it street legal.

Last weekend I actually got mine up on the bar...with the help of some friends. It is stable enough to climb around on it, but it should probably be a little wider for bar tricks. There were a bunch of pictures taken with cell phones (it was my b-day party and I was way drunk, so I forgot my dig cam), and no one has gotten them to me yet. I am dying to see what it looked like!

Now my company has me working 12 hour days, so it might be a week or so before I go back to normal hours...but I swear, the next time I go out I am going to scrape it...even if I have to flip it!!
