so i get on my bike today and hear a rattling noise in the motor. if you rev the bike and let go at the end of it you could hear the rattle. cant hear it at idle. i noticed riding it that the power was bogged down, you could feel it and hear it. sounded like the power commmander was fooled with
this is the first i rode the bike since a show we did friday. i left the show early and let a teammate with ablown motor use my bike for the last show. i called him pretty upset to ask if he noticed anything funny. he says no. but that he did have it laying on its side for a while when he was riding on hte back of another bike. he says that when he first fired it up it was tapping real bad.then stopped.
i was listening to it to see if i could hear where it was coming from and the bike just shut off????!!! now it doesn't start.
has anyone had anything similar happen, know what it sounds like, or know if laying on its side for a peroid of time might have caused this

when you try to start it is there just a clicking sound? can you push start it? something simular happened to me last weekend. long story short bike ran at high rpms for at bit then loud rattling noise between 4-7000, then stalled and will not start. ignition or push start. i talked to a few people about it and a mechanic today and mine sounds like the cam chain got jammed/stuck somehow. i plan on looking at it this weekend but yours sounds to be the same idea.

will the motor turn over by hand?
ie.. if you try to push start it, does the wheel turn or is it locked up?

if its locked up, the motor might be seized up :|

ok say exhaust seals
cam chain tensioner both sound like possibilities. the pinging noise is only at a certain low rpm
why would the bike just shut off though? and it won't restart. it doesn't crank. the light flashes and it just makes a click noise from the battery. then the fuel pump reprimes
i don't thinkhe left it running on the side. but im not sure. and im not sure what side it was on. i know he must have crashed the left cause it was packed with grass.
ive had more ****ing problems with this bike then any other ive ever had. 3-4 weeks to get me into the shop that i used to work at. i always pay the mechanics side money to look at stuff but none want to take on a big job like this in the summertime.

mine does the same one click that comes from the main 30amp fuse right after the battery. if you figure it out let me know

sounds like you got a smoked crank bearing , i've had it happen a couple times on different bikes , you didn't say if it had a cage or not but i crashed my f4i and it cracked the case cover and also tweaked the crank slightly , and that problem also had similar symptoms , sounds like a lower end problem , i doubt its a timing chain , but thats easy enough to check , just pop the valve cover off , take the spark plug boots off ( so it wont start up on you ) and turn it over, just check for alot of play in the chain . good luck

dude thats just the famous F4/F4i noise. The cam chain tensioners crap out like clockwork. Rattling at a certain RPM 4-6kish. You let em go long enough enough like that, replacing the tensioner wont even fix it.

sounds like my 954 motor when I blew it up on the side.

+2 for bad motor. sorry.

If It Wont Start And Was On Its Top Or Side Then It Is Hydrolocked. Pull The Plugs Out, Crank It Over And Blow The Cylinders Out, Put In New Plugs. If It Was On Its Side And Running There Could Be Internal Damage. Didnt You Get The Stuntex Memo For Your Bike?

i took it up to the shop today. drained the oil. no metal. mechanic put my bike in 2nd gear and it wouldn't rock forward or backward at all. he said the motor is locked up. good news probably just a top end. unfortuantly i don't have the know how to do this job.

i know my f4i's oil light comes on when its on its side..i hit the kill switch as soon as i can when its tiped over.
