Re: F4i runs like pig

teamclc,
The only vacuum lines that i had to swap over, where the ones that go from the #1 and #4 cylinders to the airbox... and i haven't tried the map sensor (thats the one that bolts to the bottom of the airbox right?) so.. i'll try that tommorrow.

Re: F4i runs like pig

Is the motor missing when it isn't revving quick or just bogging?

You said you cleaned the plugs; did you look at them close?

What happen to me once was an electrode was grounded against the tip of the plug and I had a very similar symptoms. However what worries me is that you have a knock at the RPM you indicated. Might be a bad C-rod bearing.

Man I don't get it...
Check your plugs again, you might have a Rod bearing going and sometimes what will happen is, that will allow the piston to come up high enough to clip the spark plug grounding it against itself.

You have all the correct wiring and CDi for the F4i??

Check the center 2 coil signal wires those 2 are really easy to cross.

Keep us posted on what you find hit me up with more info. Hope you get it running soon.

the only one i've got left, and i REALLY hope it isn't this on is, maybe a cam jumped timing or something?

I think if your cam timing/chain jumped you'd know it. The piston would clip a valve and there would be all kind a racket going on.

Maybe just a tooth or so.

Could be....

Ya think???

Ahhh... doubt it.

Ya gotta let us know now...

The plugs came out of a good running motor.. They were fine when i took them out of my old motor and put them in this one.

The Knocking is non-existant below and above that rpms.
I've got all the correct wiring and cdi for the f4i in and hooked up correctly, i've replaced the cam position sensor, checked the timing, and everything else in the troubleshooting steps.
The 2 center signal coil wires are on the right ones (according to the #'s on the wires).

The motor doesn't skip or miss when its revving, it just takes a while to get up to revving, then it stumbles at around 9k rpm, then it eventually powers thru it and hauls ***.

Dunno? the Honda 600s have had a history of killin cam chain tensioners. It would definatly cause a lack of power if it jumped time but the noise is usually audible at idle and goes away at higher rpm.

Re: F4i runs like pig

the sound you hear between 4-5k is probaly the cct
it goes bad on all the f4i.
get a APE manual CCT.

not sure what the other probems are, im +10 and can clutch it up from idle.

have you tried a compression test?
might help narrow it down

when i was checking the timing, i watched the cam chain on the guide, and it appeared to be tight, so..

Still check your plugs one more time.

Then I would check cam timing and at that point I would get all my valuble stuff out of reach.

Compression leak down test.

Sounds like timing or mapping.

Airbox installed???

Timing is good.. i checked it today w/ my timing light.

Mapping???? map sensor????

airbox has been installed everytime i've made a change...

and if it comes down to having to do a compression check and checking cam timing, the guy i bought it from better be giving me my money back.. cause i didn't pay $400 for a motor that doesn't run right.

I've also run 2 different sets of throttle bodies, and 2 different computers.. w/ the same results w/ both sets.

I Wouldnt Even Check Them, Replace The Plugs And While You Have Each One Out And Do A Compression Check.

Dude check your plugs just to see if a piston hit one of them. I feel your pain. If you were a local guy I'd be over in a sec to see what we could see.

I bet you see something when you pull your plugs.

You had said timeing was correct but ignition timing(Checked with timeing light) and cam timing(Timeing marks) are different. I still doubt this is your problem.

By a mapping problem I am just stating your CDi might have gone wacko. This is highly unlikely IMO.

Re: F4i runs like pig

Map sensor replaced.. still not running right

Plugs are fine... I decided to pull the cam cover off though, to check the cam timing while under the tank again.. and the intake cam wasn't quite were it was supposed to be (it was a tooth retarded). Soooo. i re-timed the cams, and put it back together. I did a quick little "clutch up" in the street, and the tire started spinning. SOOO i think its running the way it should be. I'll know for sure today, when i get a chance to go riding. Also, i have narrowed down the sound to the cam chain tensioner..

where can i buy a manual tensioner from?

Wow thats BAD, sounds similal to what mine sounded like for a while. It never was that bad though just a light clicking noise, finally it just gave out and went poop! I hate mechanical problems

Re: F4i runs like pig

Good news and Bad news fellas..

I got the motor running the way it should be.... It has the power that it was supposed to have.

BUT

Its no longer with us.. it let loose as i started to clutch one up.. so i guess the noise wasn't the cam chain tensioner after all.... Sooo would yall think it would be in appropriate for me to ask the guy i bought this motor from to give me atleast 1/2 of my $400 back? I mean i did have to do alot of stuff to get it to run the way it was "supposed" to when i bought it, and then when i do get it to finally run, it blows up.
