help with replacing a clutch
my f2 needs a new clutch. i have some new springs a friend gave me, but when i look to buy the plates i get a little confused. the only kits i've seen sell the friction plates. is that all i need to replace? do i need to replace the clutch disks?

Re: help with replacing a clutch
You shouldn't need to replace the steel plates but I would mesure them and check for warpage by simply puting them on a flat surface. Look for any burning as well wich you should be able to get out with an emery cloth.
I've thrown in aftermarket frictions with stock steel plates many o times.

Friction plates are what wears out. You don't need to replace the drive plates unless they're warped. Check out barnett clutches they will have what you need. Remember to soak them over night before you use them. What was wrong with the clutch originally?

Mine did the same thing. This is what I noticed somebody tell me if I'm on crack but I ran synthetic in my bike till I trashed it and then I ran regular after I stunted it. well I had an extra quart of syn in the garage and I really needed to change the oil in the stunt bike so I put syn in it and after that it would do what you are describing. I eventually changed the clutch anyway after I shattered the basket but I was wondering if it was because I went back and forth. Anybody else know anything about this?

Re: help with replacing a clutch
What I do for my bike... I buy clutch factory friction plates, or any other kind, and then I get barnett drive plates. Seems like barnett is the only one that makes drive plates for most of the bikes. Oh ya, get springs from something other than barnett. Lemme put it this way, try to get as little as possible from barnett, unless you cant find drive plates anywhere else, they are probly just as good.

Oh ya, all I do when I intalled them was put a coating of oil on all the friction plates. I dont think you need to soak them for hours or anything. Its just so that they dont lock on each other first time you use them.

You can adjust the clutch pin position to correct this problem...on a gsxr, it is under a rubber cap on the sprocket cover- not sure if it is accessed the same on honda, but i would assume so...

If you end up replacing your clutch (I did my F2 last week) Just get some EBC springs and plates from Bikebandit.com I think it only cost me $60-70 for everything. Download the Factory Service Manual and follow the directions. It took me about an hour to pull it apart and about 20 minutes to put everything back together, and that was my first time ever doing a bike clutch. Good luck, PM me if you need any help

i already tried that, maybe i'll replace the clutch cable before i replace the clutch. can't hurt anything

Re: help with replacing a clutch
If your steel plates are warped from heat, they will take up clearance and act like a cable problem. When your lever is at rest,it will pull fine. When you pull the lever, they distort and can still make contact with the friction plates and cause it to lurch foward.

Re: help with replacing a clutch
If the bike creeps in first The problem is either a 40% chance warped plates or
60% chance it's your clutch inner is notched from excessive clutching of the proverbial wheelie. You gotta get it open first to really know. I'll bet a buck it's a notched clutch center. Not a biggie, it takes an hour to fix and should run ya between 50 and 80 bucks check with ronayers.com.
If it were me,,, and it has been, I would get that open first and inspect
