02 gsxr 1000 stalling

I have a 2002 gixxer 1k, and when i start it, it will run for a few mins and warm up but if i let off the clutch it will die out (yes its in neutral) im assuing just from any friction the clutch may have, but i took it for a ride and it died out when i pulled in the clutch and i have to feather it to keep it running at an idle, im hoping its just becuase the gas is a lil old, but i have read a coupel threads with similar problems and they indicated it might be a vacuum line on the map sensor or throttle position sensor. it does smell a little rich, so it may be the tps, and comments/advice would be appreciated also i woudl liek to know where the throttle position sensor is located.

ps. i checked for an fi code too and it came up c-00 so im assuming that means its clear

C-oo means all is well, but the t.p.s. won't trigger a code unless it is completely bad- which I have never seen. Was the little bar to the left of the "C-oo" all the way at the top? If so, the t.p.s. is bad or needs to be adjusted. You can usually check the t.p.s. by warming the bike up, letting it idle, rev it up and let go of the throttle. If it dies when you let go of the throttle, the t.p.s. is usually bad. The sensor is located on the right side of the throttle bodies...it will have blue, yellow, and black wires running to it.

Check that vacuum line under the tank. That'll do it too.

9 times out of 10, the t.p.s. is bad. You can adjust it, but it usually goes right back. To adjust it correctly, jump the diagnostic connector, start the bike and look at the small bar next to the c-00. The bar should be in the middle. If it isn't, loosen the T-25 torx bolt that holds the t.p.s. and move it until the bar centers. Rev the bike up and check the bar position again. It should go back to the middle within a couple seconds. Do this adjustment with the bike at idle speed. Good luck!

Re: 02 gsxr 1000 stalling

all lines and hoses are hooked up, all sensors are plugged in, and the bar next to the C00 code is in the center as far as height goes on the screen.... possible that tps is still off or broken, or maybe just 1 of them? cause i found out today that there are 2. so maybe one is bad but the other being good is keeping it from displaying a code?

Re: 02 gsxr 1000 stalling

the other one is for the secondary throttle blades (the ones that cycle open and closed when you turn the key). That one is located above the t.p.s. So to answer your question, no, one working and the other one not isn't an issue. The t.p.s. could still be bad. The bar should go from the middle to the top position at around 3500-4000rpm, and then return to center at idle. That's really the only easy way to see if its working.

First start by draining the old gass out of the tank... sometimes its the simple things that get us. Gas going bad will work better while the engine is cold because of the choke.Your problem may be more serious but eliminate the questionable gas, and go from there.

I second the gas. Are you just getting the bike out from storage? Change the plugs, oil, drain the gas and clean or replace the air filter if you have already done all that and it is still messed up trade it in for a new one.

Re: 02 gsxr 1000 stalling

Sounds like the t.p.s. to me...I just replaced one today. You can replace just the bottom one. The part number is 13580-40F20.

Re: 02 gsxr 1000 stalling

if you ran the battery down and then tried to start it, the plugs are probably fouled. Try it with a fully charged battery and new plugs. The plugs foul in a second if the battery is low when you try to start it.
