Frame questions...

Here's the deal... I found a bike. But it comes with a salvage title cause the frame is bent. I don't want to pay an assload of money toward a new clean title straight frame. But found a few on ebay that have no numbers or no title that are cheap. Can I take the straight frame, build the bike off that one, and then show them the salvage title frame and salvage title, then have the straight frame stamped to make it legit, and then get the title re-issued as an "R" title... so I can register it and ride it legally on the streets? I'm in a financial bind right now and this is proving to be the most affordable thing to do. but my question stands...

Can I take an ebay frame that is straight, but has no numbers, and build a bike off of it. Then get it stamped with the old salvage numbers and get a re-issued title to make it legit? Anyone know how I can make this happen? Or what I'd need to do? Anyone have a frame and title layin around they would be willing to let go? Post up your comments and idea's. Thanks!!

Re: Frame questions...

but if use my salvage title the bike has to be inspected right? and they would notice the bunk frame and call no go? why is it illegal? since the straight one with no numbers is most likely stolen or what? its a great deal if i can do it... anyone have a clean title they wanna sell?

Re: Frame questions...

here in tx you can just have the neck of a title bike and take your bike down with neck and title and tell them you want that title on your good bike witht he bad title, even though it doesnt have a good title. It will only work if you have a title for both, some titles you cant rebuild, they will work, but it has to be some type of title to show ownership. It will transfer the good title to the frame with the bad title. But you need a title for both.

Re: Frame questions...

Whatever you do don't get that frame. You'll get nicked the first time you get pulled over, or I know around here sometimes the state patrol will just stop and check in parking lots and stuff. NO WAY IS THAT WORTH IT.

Re: Frame questions...

I know kids that have purchased race frames, stamped them and are fine.

Understand that you legally "own" that number. If you damage a frame, replace it, and have paperwork to back it up you are fine (depending on state). Same goes for motors.

Obviously no numbers is a mess, why even ryde like that?

Check first with your local DMV.
