nail in tire

Riding today... got home .... ready to ride later this afternoon... look at my rear tire... it's nice and flat. DAMN NAIL. I called the Honda dealership and they said they don't plug tires on sportbikes...i really don't want to pay another 150 for a new tire since my current one has about 4000 miles on it. Should i try to find a place that will plug it? does the tire become too weak if there's a plug? ... or should i just f+ck it, do a nice long burnout, and get a new one? thanks

Re: nail in tire

Patch it or plug it and keep riding. Patch is best but you have to remove the tire to do it. For normal riding patch it. If you are rocking slow stunts just plug it.

Re: nail in tire

Plugged my last two tires. Keep in mind, I was only 1st gear stunnin', some 2nd gear and riding to class but wasn't riding the twisties. After a while they got to a certain point when I noticed a little wear then proceeded to smok em! If your tire is flat FLAT, in only one afternoon and the nail is still in it, then its letting out air a little to fast and might be a big hole. Your basic plug is kinda big so make sure it keeps the tire inflated over night before riding. Use your own discretion. I know guys that never plug tires, just buy new ones and others plug em till their bald.

First good answer. Yea, it's not like you got that much life left. Suck it up and buy a new one. Plugging or patching a new one is one thing, but one that's worn out. Bad idea.

sounds toast, send it to me. I don't want you to get hurt!!! plus I need a temporary (free) tire to hold me off for a little longer.

Re: nail in tire

plug it.
I got a screw in my new tire last year, and since plugging then i have put on a few thousand miles with fast wheelies and rides well over 100 mixed in.
Don't plug it yourself with a cheap kit though, take it to a shop that regularly does that stuff. The plugs and glue they get are a lot better than the kits from walmart ect.

Thumbs up Re: nail in tire

I was reading an article about this awhile back in a major bike magazine (can't remember which one). The article said, plugging tires is fine but you shouldn't push the tire past 80 mph. I've ridden the street with plugged tires and stunted with them as well. No worries ... plug that ****.
