How hard is it to replace a clutch????
Ive got an 01 R6 and i need to replace the clutch in it. I found an oem clutch kit on ebay new for $50. It comes with the fiber discs. No steel discs or springs. What all will i need to replace my clutch? I knwo i need springs and gasket. Anything else. Do i need steel discs? Also how hard will it be? Thanks

im not 100% sure on streetbike but im my motocross bikes i always just replaced fibers and plates. when you ihave it apart check the basket for wear. if its worn it will have notches where the fibers hit.

Why do you think you need new springs? If it is just slipping, all you need are the friction plates, and possibly steel plates. But it's real easy to do. on a scale of 1-10 I give it a 2

it's not that hard... just get the manual and go from there. i'd replace the springs if it's spongy.
oh and make sure you soak the fibres in oil before puttin it in

get the whole kit (springs,fibres,steels)
new gasket
put new oil in
not too hard if you understand machinical things, def. easier if you have a manual

Re: How hard is it to replace a clutch????
if you dont replace the steels then take a green scrubby to them before putting them back in (like you mom uses to scrub dishes)
if you have the money go with the barnett. ive used them and have like them.
and since you like to clutch wheelies make sure you check your basket for notches, if they are small you can take a file and clean them up a bit (dont go over board)
if you take it apart and the oil stinks and/or your steels/fibres are black then you need to replace them they are toast

The springs are a main part to changing your clutch. Their what hold the plates/fibers together. If your springs go, your clutch will start slipping sooner or later.
I just bought this book which shows you how to change your clutch and do other performance projects. They use an R6 for there book project too.

Im changing my clutch right now. It took me 20min to take everything off, but probably an hour for the hour job. Once you know what your doing it shouldnt take 30min. You will need a manual so you can check specs for the springs, and plates.
