Sprocket Question.

is there any difference in going -1 front and +2 rear or just changing the rear sprocket +4 or 5? If someone can tell me the pros and cons of both or if there is any it would be appreciated. (01 Gix 600)

Re: Sprocket Question.

going lower in the front generally wears the chain down faster i think.

Re: Sprocket Question.

i think if you go -1-2 on the front you will have more engine braking

Re: Sprocket Question.

ok canging the front sprocket 1 tooth creates a higher gear ratio change then 1 tooth in the rear. the cons to changing the front are you are creating a smaller lever arm from the center to the teeth of the sprockert there by creating more force on the chain and sprocket wearing them faster. increasing the rear allows more teeth to be holding the chain at once there by reducing wear on the chain. i think its usually some where around 3-5 teeth up in the rear is equal to 1 tooth down in the front. depends on the bike tho.
