Re: bike question...

could be stator, rectifier, or just a crap battery.
just do some tests at the battery terminals and youll see right away if the bike is charging or not
1. bike off = 12v +
2. bike idling = 12.5v +
3. bike at 3,000rpm = 13v +
if the voltage doesnt go up with more RPMs then the stator or rectifier is toast.look in your manual to see how to test both
if the voltage does go up then the battery is toast (have it load tested an any auto parts store)

Re: bike question...

so if he fully charges the battery ... and starts the bike .. if the voltage drops then its ...

rectifier or stator ... or can it be either or

we tried puttin in a rectifier off an 04 gsxr 6 .. jumped the bike with a car .. it started .. but once we turned the high beams on it slowly started to die

is it cause the 04 rectifier wont work on his 01 gsxr 6 ... or stator problem ?

Re: bike question...

could be either one........i dont know if the rectifiers are the same or not. ya need to start easy and have the battery LOAD TESTED to make sure its good and check at the battery terminals/wires at the battery to make sure its charging.

Re: bike question...

A friend of mine had THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, but was a Honda 900rr. He went through 3 Brand New Batteries, new Fuses, a New Stator and Magneto and even bought a whole new Wiring Harness to the bike.

.....the problem was the Rectifier.

Re: bike question...

well we tried the rectifier off an 04 600 .. i told him tomorrow if he wants he can try the one off mine (01 gsxr 6) incase the 04 isnt compatable or doesnt work for some reason

Just disconnec the recitifer and see if will start off the fully charged battery. Then plug it back in and see what happens. This will save you alot of time messing around with fuses, wiring and what not and its a good process of illimantion

Re: bike question...

ok. charged the batt. full. ran the bike the voltage on the batt. went from 12.4 to 11.9 and stayed there even during RPM increases... checked ohms on the stator from friends 01 6 and my 01 6 and the readouts are different. mine at 2.6 and his at 0.5. now does this mean if i replace the stator the problem should be fixed? remember fully charged battery and new rectifier both from an 04 gsxr 6... sorry so long thanks for the help

Re: bike question...

yours was 2.6 ? if so then yes you have problems.
his .5 is right on target

the voltage drop says the bike is NOT charging and using VOLTAGE from the battery as you rev the bike.

Re: bike question...

so my 2.6 is way wrong and the stator when replaced should fix the whole electrical/battery issue?

and by problems do you mean a BIG electrical problem or my problem is the stator and it needs to be replaced?

elaborate if possible.

Re: bike question...

theres a resistor in the suzuki ignition switch and when its hot wired it burns up the rectifier.

Re: bike question...

stator is pretty much mechanicly bullit proof and the rectifier controls what is done with the current from the stator. its the "bouncer" of ur electrical system. it dispense's unwanted/needed energy into heat. and when u short it out ur bike will just eat thru ur battery everytime. don't hot wire new gsxr's.

he was telling me something like some of the coils on it were black .. so im like ya u burnt it up or it was already burnt up ...
