Re: Fork seals

I haven't heard that you can blow em in one session, no. They go out faster than normal, but that is normal for anything if you stunt!

Re: Fork seals

For the record I was joking when I said in one session. I've blown one out doing a stoppie, but who knows how much abuse it had taken by the previous owner, and I'm sure there's not a lot of people that just do stoppies for this poll.

Re: Fork seals

I only changed them once on my gsxr, and that was a solid 8 months or so of stoppies....Blew one on my 954 stuntwars weekend, the other a few days later...Both times I've blown seals, it was right after I softened my rebound settings from around middle to a couple of clicks from softest...It might just be coincedence, not real sure, but thought I would throw that in.

Re: Fork seals

For the record. Seals won't blow from excessive pressure from slaming a wheelie down, or doing stoppies. If the pressure exceeds the limits of the seal some oil will purge from the seal. However the seals are designed to withstand that.
What makes seals leak is wear. When you get some miles on a set of forks the bushings will wear then the fork has play. That play with damage the fork seal causing it to leak.
I always make sure when I rebuild forks to get the seals, dust covers and bushings.

Makes logical sence, good piece of advice, i haven't done any fork seals as yet but only have a couple of months stunting under by belt, im sure the time will come for me to replace them one day
