enough hc scrape gearing?
i am getting comfortable enough on my bike now to where i want to start scraping seatstanders/spreaders/hc's WITHOUT a handbrake, but i was wondering if a have enough sprocket to learn this on.
I have a 929 with -1 +10.
Im sure its possible with this combo, but is it enough to LEARN on? i dont wanna try it and not have enough engine brake to pull me out of it. keep in mind my bike is also my only transpo, and Cali freeways are fast moving, so i dont wanna gear the pi$$ out of it. but im not oppose to compromising my drivability a little for the higher good. should i go to -2 +10? im also trying to avoid buying a new chain. i wish i could gear it more because im addicted to engine braking, but, waddya gonna do.
there is already a thread on HOW to hc scrape, so i dont need that advice, but if you wanna include some hints, that'd be cool too.
Thanks--

Re: enough hc scrape gearing?
i went up to a 73 tooyh rear and had to change my chain by getting a new one and using two master links and some of the old chain its perfect for engine braking any type of wheelie , i took it on the highway and couldnt go above 70 its a zx9 ithink tou gotta sacrifice one for the other ..

Re: enough hc scrape gearing?
in order to learn and not crash u eitheer need a hb or more gearing then u have, its def possible to do it with ur gearing...but like u said to learn i wud gear it mroe or hop on the train and mount a hb. u shud be able to scrape outa seat stander though. i was only +10 on my f4i and i clutched out seat stander from like 15....grantedi barley got out of it but i was goin slow.

Re: enough hc scrape gearing?
....cool thanx, thats the kind of info i need........what gearing do you guys suggest as a bare minimum?
i was also thinking i would like a f4i or 636 for this because 600's inherently have more engine braking, but im broke, so ill stick with what i have for now

Do it..and it's not like -2+10 is gonna help you NOT crash...it's just practice. I like staying high in the R's...I would try spreaders first b4 doing the highchair scrapes.

I think you will lose more rpms on having -2 in the front. You should stay -1 and go +15. You might be able to use your old chain if it has a lot of slack left over.
I used to be -2/+7 on my 929. I was in your shoes but i bit the bullet and ordered a -1/+21 from thrust company. After getting that set up, I'll never look back. **** is way to fun. And i also commute on my stuntbike and it ain't that bad.

but wouldnt -2 +10 be almost like -1+15? my chain is adjusted all the way in, so no bigger back sprocket unless i get the whole set-up, which i could do i guess.
uh-oh, this has kinda turned into another damn 'how much gearing' thread. so, will this help with the HC scrapes?
thanx

Re: enough hc scrape gearing?
My first suggestion is buy you a cheap car that can be your spare transportation. Something that can get you back and forth to work once or twice a month. Then buy you some sprockets. If you drop the bike and you will, and your clutch lever snaps off or you bust an engine cover or something else, how are you going to drive it to work? Just something you might want to think about b/4 you go busting 12s. I am glad you want to do 'em. The more stunters the bigger the sport but you have to get to work somehow.
