the only way to slow it down is to use the brake or have really gangta throttle control which comes with alot of practice, alot of people get big sprockets because they think it slows your wheelies down

Re: +10 sprocket

easiest way to slow it down ive found out is to clutch it at a dead stop or near a dead stop..that way even if your not balanced you can still get a feel for going slow on one wheel for a short time..

the problem with that is....If don't you know how to use the brake, your just going to flip or it will be way to choppy(on and off the gas)

Re: +10 sprocket

it'll make it jump up quicker, and will be slower per rpm than stock gearing,it will make you go slower at those rpms but wont help you keep it slow, master 1st gear then go for some gearing..

Re: +10 sprocket

im still learning brake control myself, and yeah it is kind of choppy but when i bring it up to the balance point and im smooth with the gas it doesnt look choppy

Re: +10 sprocket

I learned by slowing it down with the brake, but you have to be past B/P to do so

Re: +10 sprocket

its just as dangerous, going behind the BP with out knowing brake control and clutching from a dead stop id say...

Re: +10 sprocket

but you must learn to use the brake to go past B/P, so it is teaching yourself to use it, and trust me brake control takes longer to learn than just pressing it

Re: +10 sprocket

bigger sprockets make the bike come up eaiser at lower rpms and adds a lot of engine braking which is good for saving your ***,but a geared bikes 2nd gear feels basicly like a stock geared 1st..and first even lower...your best bet is learning good throttle control in first gear...even if your going fast learn to keep it at the BP and be smooth then try clutching from a slower speed once you know where behind and at the balance point is...

thats not always true,i can be on the highway at the balance point and lean back and ease the throttle and go to about 11:30 and ease off the gas and it comes right back..but my bikes geared -1 +12 so theres a lot of engine braking

Re: +10 sprocket

I thought a big sprocket would help me slow down too but it only changes the way the bike behaves. I can do the same on both my 1000s one stock, one with -1,+9. The only advantage I see to having a sprocket is it helps the motor keep the bike moving when your going real slow all the way back, past the balance point. Its like having low range in 4x4s, lets you go real slow with out killing it. Until I wrecked I was starting to go slow on my stock bike but not like my geared bike. good luck!

Re: +10 sprocket

the whole reason to slow a wheelie down is to ride idle eventually, right?

Re: +10 sprocket

heres my last words of advice...take your time know your skill level and dont try to exceed it too quickly,it will only make you wreck..learn the BP in first gear then look into gearing,i thought gearing mine would make me rock it only made me have to relearn my gears...just do what makes you feel comfortable and always cover your rear brake..

Re: +10 sprocket

in slow stuff...idle speed stuff no theres not really any engine braking, but he hasnt gotten there yet,im just telling him sprockets do add engine brake, and before he learns slow he has to learn fast which involves good throttle and brake control.
