Re: Stand and Clutch Question

keep your arms locked and just lean back alittle. Dont get to carried away 1st gear comes up pretty easy once you have the technique down.

Re: Stand and Clutch Question

not if you don't need to, at least I wouldn't. And if you have the power in 1st to bring it up without bounce I think that bounce would make it a little hairier, especially if you're just learning.

Re: Stand and Clutch Question

i just thought bouncing might make it smoother when i clutch it so i dont get thrown back as much.

Re: Stand and Clutch Question

it seems like in the past when ive attempted to clutch first while standing, the bars go crooked the second the wheel leaves the ground. I barely straighten them bfore i touch down again.

Re: Stand and Clutch Question

keep your arms straight and you wont turn the bars

let the bike do the work, 1st gear should require nothing but clutch. just take your time, you'll get it dont rush.

Re: Stand and Clutch Question

I cant do standups or clutch ups that well but on your particular bike and r6 i think that second might be a little safer.

2nd takes more power to get up, therefor once you hit balance point if you dont roll off in time you go over backwards very quick, whereas first i clutch it up straight to BP pretty much.

2nd gear your goin to be goin about 50 MPH befor your up in BP. 1st gear i can be in BP by 20 MPH (and flip at 25 haha). You tell me which is more safe?

Only downside to 1st gear is that its twitchy, but IMO if you learn to control a 1st gear wheelie your goin to have way better throttle control. First time i brought up 2nd gear to BP i was amazed at how smoothe everything was.

1st is all around a better gear to learn wheelies in if you ask me, some others may dissagree but i had no problems learning in first. Till i got to ballsy for my own good.

Re: Stand and Clutch Question

For second you're gonna have to bounce and clutch it, or bounce it in the powerband and there will be almost no engine braking. I rode with a guy who had a GSX-R600 and he said when he did 2nd gear standups if he let it past 11 o clock it would drop. 1st is safer.

Yea another thing is engine break in 2nd gear is like nothing, 1st gear engine break saved my *** probably 4 times prior to my recent loop (maybe ill learn to use the rear break now lol) so that'll help alittle bit, the biggest deal with 1st is the "touchy" throttle response, once you get over that its cake.

Till you start trying slow **** like me and you relize you should have learned break control first

It's not too hard to get used to the twitchiness just less throttle inputs. I thought my 954 was way too twitchy to ride in first until I tried it and I prefer it now.

Re: Stand and Clutch Question

Maybe i am thinking about the twitcyness in first on the rc. That is what would scare the shyt out of me. I am all good in first now, I dont have to play with the throttle too much, i stick to one place and pl\retty much ride it out, right as i go into second the front touches the ground softly. I would love to be able to carry first through second but cant quite get it done.

Re: Stand and Clutch Question

my bike is geared -1 +12 so first gear is beyond twitcty, but im used to and like being able to adjust the height of the bike barely moving the throttle.

Either clutch it in second, or get it to the balance point in first. Shifting isn't going to do anything except make the wheelie more dangerous.

I agree, Ive tried shifting my 1st gear wheelies into 2nd and it just scares the crap outa me, Only reason i try that is because my clutch is so wore that once the bike has been running for more then 10 min i cant even clutch up 2nd anymore.
