A new website dedicated to learning how to do basic wheelies on a motorcycle

I built a new new website How To Wheelie a Motorcycle, where I have posted instructions, pictures, and videos, I have collected from around the web, on how to ride a wheelie on a motorcycle, and give credit to the authors of each piece. The information provided is very basic and is geared for the person who knows nothing about the subject and yet is still interested in learning how it is done.

Anyway, if you want to give me your feedback I'd appreciate hearing it and if you have any other tutorials on the subject, please point them out and I'll add them to the site.

Thanks and take care,
Rob

Re: A new website dedicated to learning how to do basic wheelies on a motorcycle

No, bro... Rob Valli, ex dog musher.... and not to worry, I don't actually provide any of the educational information on that site; I left that up to the pros.

Basically I was trying to learn how to do wheelies myself and ended up looking hard and long for free info... so I decided to turn my bookmarks into a mini website, so other people wouldn't have to sort through as much **** as I did to get a handle on how to do them.

The other thing is that I'm a search engine optimizer and social media marketer, and I wanted to get my hands on some of the cooler 'Facebook Connect' technology myself, and really understand how 'like' buttons and 'shares' actually work, where they actually show up, etc. When you do that with a regular e-commerce site no one has a vested interest in checking out your website and sharing it with their friends. What I learn here I will be able to apply in other for profit ventures or consulting...

And, I also genuinely love bikes I got my first dirt bike when I was 4 years old, rode until I was 18 and got into a pretty bad accident. Then I got my first roadbike last year, totaled it, and just got bike number two. I went with my girl to see the XDL Championships at Daytona and now am dying to learn how to do 12s... but not with my bike I want to get a 50cc and **** around on that before I start dropping my nice shiny 400lb bike on top of myself

Anyway, that's my story... nice to meet you guys

Re: A new website dedicated to learning how to do basic wheelies on a motorcycle

I honestly rewrote that line a few times trying to find the right balance...I guess I still haven't found it. Obviously, not all the guys that contributed videos were 'pros' (or even stunt guys for that matter) so I didn't want to lump everyone together.

Actually, the pros seemed to be the guys instructing in the abandoned parking lots and closed courses, telling everyone to pick a good open safe spots to learn... then there are some other guys doing their helmet cam instruction, on one wheel, driving through traffic, but who still have good advice to offer.

I thought that line you quoted was pretty good, because it illustrated a spectrum that started with stunters and spanned from there. I'll admit though, ignorant people, such as myself, forget to be sensitive about how we label people. I was just trying to lighten things up, not shoot anyone down with friendly fire, so I'll change that...

Anything else while I'm in there? Know of any other videos I'm missing? Any feedback is welcome...

Re: A new website dedicated to learning how to do basic wheelies on a motorcycle

There, simple enough:
"[...] where anyone from professional stuntmen to the neighbor kid shares with you what they know about wheelies."
...I just want to keep emphasis on the fact that I'm not actually providing the educational content of the site, and that the peoplewho are, may not be explaining the big picture, or demonstrating in maybe the most suitable environment.

My target audience is basically younger guys so the first thing I want to do is get them to look out for their own safety, the safety of their bike, and obviously, the safety of other people and their property, as well. After that, it's all about not getting $1000 fines

Basically, I just don't want anyone to get desensitized doing crap in public that makes us all look bad, because they watched a bunch of first person video tutorials on the subject, on my site.

I am of the mindset people are going to do stunts like this no matter what. I don't know when the first wheelie was created, but I bet it wasn't too long after the first motorcycle was invented. It is THE original stunt. And yet if you have never done them, you at least have enough sense that you want to get some advice before you try. And since I'm definitely not qualified to teach, all I can stress is a.) wheelies are dangerous, and b.) Unless you are on private land, with landowner permission, wheelies could cost you as much as some bikes in tickets and fines.

Anyway, problem solved and apologies extended to any fun luvin' criminals out there

Re: A new website dedicated to learning how to do basic wheelies on a motorcycle

Hey, just a little update: All the videos on the site (so far) have been transcribed, so now you can do text based search to find areas of interest. Take a look:

http://www.howtowheelie.info/categor...some-throttle/

...I think it also saves some people time in figuring out if they want to watch a 10 minute video on the subject. Sometimes you need to see something to understand it, sometimes you can just read it. Now you can do both

The next steps are to allow users to suggest other tutorials, and I'd like to open up a little section of pics and videos that aren't 'instructional', but are just folks showing you 'how it's done' and maybe give away some t-shirts or something fun.

In the meantime, if anyone knows of other public tutorials, shoot an email on the about us page and I'll take a look. And if you if are one of our Facebook Fans, 'unlike' and 'like' us again... everything got screwed up and most of the people got frozen, thanks to a bug. There are only about 65 of us on there, but that is because everyone else are a bunch of pussies

Take care, be safe, and if you can't keep both tires on the road, at least try to keep one on the ground; front or back, your choice
