f4i non starter

Having real problems with my bike at the mo, cant even get it started, Fi fault light keeps flashing code 23, hiss light is going green as it should,
Ive just fitted a new loom as i had a feeling there was a problem with it but still no luck.

The bike cranks and sounds as if its trying to fire, every now and then it does start on about 3 cyliners and cuts off after 3 seconds.

Happened really strangely too, was running fine on a saturday, put it in the van, then pulled it out on the sunday and it wouldnt start.

Anyone have any ideas?

Is the fuel pump priming when you switch the ignition on?

Re: f4i non starter

have you checked all the hoses up to the injectors and on them? could be possible loss of pressure? aswell as that the spark leads can sometimes come loose, is there anyway you can find out what fault 23 is?

All coil packs seem fine, and i believe fault 23 is to do with the o2 (lambda) sensor. My orginal loom came with a o2 sensor on the exhaust, but ive now changed this for a loom without.

Just seems real odd, the bike was running fine, then all i did was change the oil and filter, fit a new back tyre, then it started up fine after the work, left it sitting overnight, then it wouldnt start the next morning!

Re: f4i non starter

sounds a bit silly , but have you checked the vacume pipe to the map sensor for splits or just come off ? (located on the nearside of your air box)

Ok im back they have done me 1 or 2 print outs for ya

As per the Fault code sheet:

Code 23 =
No.1 O2 sensor heater Malfunction (G type only)

Loose or poor contact on O2 sensor connector OR Open or short circuit in O2 sensor heater Or faulty O2 sensor

Engine opperates normaly

cheers, so as i thought the code 23 is just the o2 sensor that i removed, but this shouldnt stop the bike starting.

Re: f4i non starter

do you have a spark on all 4 cyl's??

Maby check the injector connections

Oh and if ya do get it to strike up on 3 again try and keep it running and check the header pipes for temprature change, im guessing 3 will be warm and 1 cold

Hope this helps

Re: f4i non starter

right just swapped back to the old loom, so this cleared the code 23, so now no codes are present. Everything now seems to be operating correctly, Fi light comes on and goes off as it should, Hiss light shows green and goes off as it should.

I even cleaned out all the fuel and put new stuff in, but still nothing, think ill try and borrow someones hiss and ecu and see if that works.

if there was water in the gas it will take a bit of time to get all of it out of the fuel lines and fuel system even after you have emptied the tank

If it is water (often because of tank dents) you will need to airline every thing.

if it didnt start using starter fluid then it sounds like you have no spark at all ..
