every manufacturer has got his own security set up.
any way option one, i would try what OMR said just for the sake of giving it a try (put a friend's ignition on) some bike got immobilisers just on a ring on the ignition, ducaties extend the immobiliser to the clocks, ecu...
if it doesn't work, there's a complete set ignition, wiring loom, ignition + keys on ebay goin for like 350

after marcket ECU is another option but expensive (bought one for my old ducati 500quid from australia)

bottom line is some immobilisers can be baypassed as well

but wait see GHOSTIE what he says, m sure he's got options
sorry just noticed this thread

3 options
1) new barrel and ecu
2)race ecu (can sometimes be tricky)
3)get a loom and ecu from the US or Canada with no imobiliser system

finally managed to source an ecu and lockset cheap(ish) so bike should be up and running soon
