busted fork seal
OK so its probably no surprise that ive got a busted fork seal by now, but DST and myself are going to fix it with the new OEM seals and fork oil ive ordered.
But once i have the forks in bits would my bike gain any advantage from fitting stiffer springs???
any other fork repair advice?

Re: busted fork seal
Well DST is an aircraft Engineer so i was hoping he would have the skill
But after speaking to Ash last night who has gone through 5 seals this year, ive decided to send them off to be done. Apparently they are a ****** to put back together and if you scratch the tube your forks will keep blowing.
Its £85 for oil & seals or £120 for a re-spring & valves

Re: busted fork seal
I have a name, you know...
Yeah, the fork seals in my CB were easy, they aren't the most advanced forks out there, but I guess the principle is the same...
This should help if you wanna do it yourself.

Re: busted fork seal
Your gonna charge me £40
but seriously £120 for new springs, valves, bushes, seals and oil is a steal so im gonna go with that this time, thanks. Plus the left fork preload is making a dodgy scraping sound and i wanna get that fixed.
Shop says a stiffer spring and the right valves & oil to cope will put the landing pressure on the spring and off the seals. Worth a try.

Re: busted fork seal
Ant i always have my forks done by K Tec but this is mainly due to my size (17-18 stone) you must be nearer 12 so I would just go up one wt on the oil and fit suzuki seals and guides.

Re: busted fork seal
Im 14 stone of pure rippling muscle
DPSRacing are fitting K-Tec springs & valves, seals, oil for £120. Its gonna cost extra to fix the unknown problem in my left fork though.
GSXR stock damper service is £40
Going heavy WT is ok for increasing the compression on the gsxr overly soft springs, but fitting stiffer springs and going lighter WT will take the force off the compression and put it on the spring. Well thats what they recon.

Re: busted fork seal
i am sponsored by RG3suspension.com they just started doing streetbikes.
but well know in dirt. ive talked to them alot about set ups and whatnot.
the ideal way to set up your bike is with 5wt oil and make dampning adjustments with shims an valving whatnot... any thicker weight oil will break down when hot an give inconsistant dampning overtime... 5wt breaks down less because it builds less heat or somenonsense... also unless your a very LARGE person you should not have to change springs....
what RG3 did for me was run Motul 5wt oil and put a more progressive valving in there and it made a major improvement on my stoppies just being consistant feeling, an dialed were i like them. and now i only need minor adjustments depending on riding surfaces............
thats my 2cents........
