stunt bikes and insurance? those of you who don't ride on the road...

To those of you who have stunt bikes, but don't ride them on the road.

Do you insure them?

I've kept my CBR insured past couple years despite not having ridden on the road! My renewal is up now and they want £550 for both my bikes, I'll only ever ride one of them on the road though, just worried about the CBR getting stolen. insuring just my road bike is only £300 so I'd be paying £250 or so just to protect the CBR against theft?

Just curious as to whether people insure their stunt only bikes, or if there is a theft only insurance policy available? or if people just dont worry and double the security?!

cheers.

i know most insurance companies will try every trick in the book the not pay out if they should, its not on every policy, but it wouldnt surprise me if your policy stated they both must be taxed and mot'd, also if you dont declare any mods done to the bike they can refuse to pay out, a few years back a mate whos bike got nicked was open told he was getting more than £500 less than he should just because he hadnt declaired he had changed the end can.

if i were you, i would not bother to insure it, but get some decent security on it, good chain, a ground anchor, if you have a garage get a garage defender etc, although this is just my personal oppinion, your insurance may cover it if you speak to them about it

if ya do need some security let me know, as that is one of the things i deal in

i insure mine... and it doesnt ever see the streets, but according to my insurance its a perfectly mint sportbike... which means when im done with it i just give them a call and they give me full blue book value for a mangled pos, all i gotta do is come up with an excuse for why its soo beat up. plus it helps with cops when they hassle me at the lot since it has no plate. then again im only paying 600 for a year. 600 bucks for a 6gs if anything happens? to me thats worth it

i'll always keep my lot bike insured, this way if I ever get harrased I get bonus points. A cop can always be a dick if he wants to unless you're in a private lot with legitimate permission. Always try and stay straight... you might not ever need it, but it could save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

I insure my supermoto for the road and its an extra £6 a month to put the 636 on it as well, so both are insured but only use the supermoto

i wouldnt bother either.
Just get good garage security.
When me and my dads bikes got nicked they took months and months to pay out, and try absoutley everything to give you nothing, or next to nothing.
Id save the 250 for a sick paintjob in a few months

that seems a bit steep to add another bike my company charged me an extra 40 quid to add my 636 to the blade policy i would find another company to go with

Re: stunt bikes and insurance? those of you who don't ride on the road...

Well after getting really stressed with various insurance companies last night I got a refreshing phone call as I sat down for tea break this morning!!!

A company rang me up after I done a quote with various companies on gocompare.com asked me what the cheapest I had was... I said £300 for the VTR and she dropped it to £250.. so I asked about adding the CBR and shes done me this deal

vtr + cbr insured TPF&T, euro cover, breakdown cover and TPO on other peoples bikes :D for £350

I couldn't beat £550 previously so I've gone with insuring both bikes, and now I can ride other peoples bikes TPO so who's gonna let me have a go first?

cheers guys, I'm going to beef my garage security a bit as well because like you say, any way they can get out of paying they will!!

Ahh yes, the sweat sound of the starter motor when the engine dont start, or the sound of the spanner man rubbing his hands together when you take in for repairs for the 3rd time this month

Don't know what you talking about boyo?! It's a HONDA, not a single thing wrong with it, runs like a dream and rides well too. Not the best or fastest litre bike going but it's fun enough and looks nice

Altho I've only done a few hundred miles on it been working so much ever since I bought it I just haven't got round to it. Don't envisage any problems with it, and I'm going to France soon
