How to improve my rear brake?

Im buying a handbrake at the end of the month off Pez, Brembo lever & full throttle adapter (dual bracket later when he gets them done).

But my brake feels bad, unprogressive and hard to lock the wheel.

Its got new braided lines, new master cylinder valves and its bled properly. The pads, brake disk and caliper are stock.

What should i buy next to improve my rear brake

Re: How to improve my rear brake?

Erm nothing really, your brake should be perfectly good enough as stock if everything works properly.

Have you changed the pads? maybe the old ones are contaminated or glazed over, change them and bed them in see if that solves the problem?

I for one hate braided rear lines, I find them too much like a switch, much prefer stock lines, but if your rear wheel isn't locking then this probably isn't your main problem, it does however lose a lot of feel (IMO) with a braided line.

If the change of pads doesn't sort it, then you either haven't bled it correctly or theres something wrong with the caliper/master/line/disc becuase it should work fine as stock.

Re: How to improve my rear brake?

gotta admit i dont know a lot about mechanics, but i had a similar problem a few years ago, i was told both the caliper, pads and disk were just suffering for not enough use (i hardly touched the thing, allways used front break), i was told just to use it as much as i can for a few weeks,

so for the next two weeks i only used the rear break, just had to give myself more stopping distance, lol, after two weeks of that (i was only using it locally at the time so wasnt a lot of miles) it worked better than ever, never had a prob with it since

not sure if this hepls but maybe worth thinking about ???

Have you spilled any fluid on the pads?

Go up the road and drag the brake. get some heat in and see how it feels.

Re: How to improve my rear brake?

Nothing has been spilt on the pads and i use the back brake all the time on the road, just to get used to skidding the back end.

Caliper
How can the caliper wear out? and what should i do or buy to resolve the problem.

thanks for your input

i told you months ago to fix up your brakes, you should be locking that rear wheel with the FB anytime you want

ant,

you won't need the additional stopping power of a bigger disk, plus you'll spend forever setting it up

Since then ive:
-replaced the master cylinder valves
-got a braided hose
-bought a seperate brake caliper off ebay
-serviced the brake pedal
-fitted new bleed nipples
-and bled it about 20 times.

Its been going on for ages and i though it was OK until santa pod.

Im buying a brembo 16x18 & full throttle adapter off pez on 30th, so i want it working well, whatever it takes.

Re: How to improve my rear brake?

spray brake cleaner on there if ya havent. even a tiny bit of overspray of WD-40 can grease you up and kill your brakes. . and you are talking about the foot brake not working right?
