ant's bike is burning bulbs

Im trying to be hard like you guys and not repair my bike unless i absolutely have too.

So im riding with a smashed throttle switch gear, the only thing that is effected is the main beam, it wont come on unless i hold down the pass button.

Could this be burning out my rear indicators? 2 new ones have burnt out in a month.

Re: ant's bike is burning bulbs

maybe, if you've shorted something else inside the housing

take it all apart and have a look

post up pics so people can help you out

failing that - stop replacing the indicators and just use hand signals to indicate

Re: ant's bike is burning bulbs

So a short could burn out the rear indicators, thats what i thought.

I can't be arsed replacing the switchgears cos they seem to take a hammering when i practice.

Re: ant's bike is burning bulbs

i'm not sure, but if they're always on that'll cause them to blow sooner

wait, you said you've smashed your throttle switch gear, but it's affecting your lights (left hand side) which side is it?

Re: ant's bike is burning bulbs

Right side, where the throttle is.

Thats where you turn your night/side lights on/off.

Re: ant's bike is burning bulbs

OIC, i thought you meant left side, which works you main/dipped and pass lights.

Dunno then, shouldn't affect your indy's, would need to have a look before i could help you any more.

Sounds like something is wrong/broken with the side light/dipped wiring, cos the pass button should work even when you have no lights on at all

Yes it does. The pass button will turn the headlight on, but the switch next to the throttle wont anymore. So at night i have to put an elastic band over the pass button to get a headlight, this is what im thinking is stressing the rear bulbs.

Re: ant's bike is burning bulbs

you do realise that that pass button is you MAIN beam, so will blind other users.

get your wire sorted on the right hand side, get a meter on them and work from the lights back to your battery to find the fault

Re: ant's bike is burning bulbs

Im running an mx headlight that billy gave me, think it uses the same bulbs as yours. Nobodys getting blinded anyway

ive got an electrics tester but i can't work out how it works. Think i will just try soldering the switchgear connectors back together.

Re: ant's bike is burning bulbs

Main beam bulb gone now too

Opened up the throttle switchgear and it seems it was just a peice of broken plastic stopping my lights from switching on.
But i expect it was my running the headlights off the pass button thats been burning all the bulbs.

Billy da kid very kindly gave me a light like this after i smashed my bike up at elvington.

i'd use a headlight to ride at night if i were you.

i used to hav a similar headlight to that, but didn't use it...n yh mine had the kitchen halogens in them, just be carfeul, if u leave em on accidentally then it will kill your battery in no time.

Re: ant's bike is burning bulbs

i ran 2x 50w kitchen hallogens, but don't leave your bike out in the rain, they'll blow all day long if they get damp/wet

good luck

Re: ant's bike is burning bulbs

The bulbs are behind a clear plastic housing, as above, that should protect them from getting wet.

cheers
