Road & Stunt sprocket advice

Hey guys

Im sick of being skint ive got MOT's, tax's and insurance due next month for the bike and car, so i think i deserve a small treat and im thinking new sprockets would be fun.

Track racers recommend -1f & +3b
Nags (SL site admin) recommends for road & lot -1f & +8 or 10b

Can anyone explain how -1 +10 would feel on the road?
I take it id have to stay out of the powerband in 1st.
Are their any other downsides to high gears.

Where should I get the sprockets & chain from?

cheers

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

Ive found a 525 front sprocket -2 teeth @ £11.10

Could I fit this and keep my current chain?

Would it make enough difference?

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

im -1+10 and its a pain in the **** on the road, hence why I don't bother riding it on the road anymore.... if you want to ride on the road, don't bother going so big.. when I rode everywhere I had stock front 52 rear. (biggest on b&c's off-the-shelf website... ) worked well.. im thinking of going back to it actually.

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

That's fine, until you want to go roundy-roundy (but hey fast circles are in now aren't they?)

If you want cheaap sprokets go to Talon-eng - 26quid for a +10T rear

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

I wouldn't go -2 on the front as there is a high risk of cutting through your chain guide on the swingarm.

I will be doing +5 +10 +15 sprockets in about a month if you can wait?

On my blade which I use on road Im -1 on front and plus 3 rear and its not a bad for the road

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

Ant,

I've been advised to get BP down before looking for bigger gearing, someone else will be able to confirm. but Bigger gearing will only result in you chopping the throttle more, and not picking up a good technique

Keep practicing, you out tommorrow? If you are take it easy and take a mobile phone with you

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

Hey, I jus bought Renthal, standard front and a custom 52 rear plus a 520 o ring HD 120 chain, all in just under £90 brand new!
Jus shop around a bit, try M&P Direct, www.MandP.com, I didn't get my sprockets from there but their prices are very competative..

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

£90 is well cheap, if Pez doesn't pull his finger our in a month i will give them a go

They come to about £115 on M&P website.

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

How do track day racers keep changing their chain length when they need bigger or smaller sprockets for different tracks?

Do I need an X, O or standard link?

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

They probably have different chains to go with the different sprockets.

I'd go for an X-Ring.. that's what I always run anyways. 520 is fine by the way.... I have never spent the extra on a 525 (for stunt) and never had a problem, and if I'm really honest, I neglect my chain..... but still no problems (damn its gonna snap on sunday now isn't it!! )

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

Ant, don't buy bigger gearing until you have bp

Otherwise that sliding problem you have will be ten times worse

Re: Road & Stunt sprocket advice

I thought they might run two X ring links with 1 to 3 links in between?
