i don't know about the uk but over here prior complaints are a matter of public record ,here that is a department in the superior court house and we can access it over the internet or just go to the public records department in the court house also if there have been prior complaints and nothing was done about it that should help your case.....

The picture I took isn't really all that great, doesn't really look that bad in the pic... but this is what I drove over, the main one in the middle.. I don't think its 2 inches or more deep to be honest but it is pretty harsh on the suspension when you drive over it..
spoken to a few people this evening and a couple said they know the drain I'm on about and they make sure they avoid it as they know what its like... so its not just me thats noticed it, i wonder if theres any way to find out if any other complaints have been made about it?
Like I say, picture doesn't really do it justice, but this is what I drove over when the front wheel fell off, so it cant be too good...

your van had some excessive wear in the lower balljoint area, think your self lucky you wern't on a fast B road when it let go. good luck with the council but if they wont admit liability it will cost you a lot to persue.
hopefully a new wishbone, driveshaft & flexi-hose will be as bad as it gets.

Izit, quite possibly yeah. Garage will confim soon.
Had a "sort of" report back from a friend who works next door to the garage, hes spoken to the mechanic... gearbox is fine.. looking at about £4-500 in total, so not as bad as expected. But **** knows where I'm gonna find £500 from. Starter motors just packed up too so gotta get that sorted as well!
Least it gets it all sorted though.

Van is being fixed atm, repair came to £400 + a starter motor so about £550 ish... it'll be up for sale once I get it back as I don't actually have £550. Will prob get a car temporarily and a trailer.
tbh goin riding is last thing on my mind at the mo. will be back out soon.

I have just spoken to a mate, the same thing happened to his mates Peugeot and this is how the car ended up;
So in a way I now do feel pretty glad it happed at 35mph and I managed to get it to side of road with no issues. It could have ended a lot worse!
What really annoys me is I had it in the garage a couple of months before to replace the CV joints and check the suspension etc.. pretty annoyed they didn't pick up on any excess wear to the ball joint, when I reported the knocking after it was done it kept getting put off and put off (my fault as well as theirs) as I was told it was probably the CV joint wearing in or the suspension bushes.
ah well, **** happens, walked away from it and learnt a few things in the process.
