Re: Video Editing

Elements is the easier version, after effects has all the filters and stuff to make your vids look cool.

I used WMM, but am gonna use Premiere for my next vid, however the file sizes it makes are huge for some reason.

Re: Video Editing

Windows Movie Maker has a sequel, called Movie Maker II. You download it from Windows Update, it's got quite a bit more options and filters and stuff.

Second is Pinnacle, easy to use and comes in bundle with its on hardware.
So, no hassles whatsoever. you buy the whole package, and you're done.

I have Adobe Premiere and it's the least friendly software i ever had.
Even coming from Photoshop,
there's a thousand softwares more friendly and easy than Premiere.

Re: Video Editing

I have premier and elements free

so elements is easier?

i've used WMM2 but it just seems a bit tacky and the output doesn't seem great.

Dave, do you use firewire or usb to download vid?
any tips for getting the most out of wmm2???

Re: Video Editing

Firewire w/ a dedicated IEEE1394 PC card is the basic tool to "acquire" video stream from your camera.
If it's a MiniDV tape camera, of course,
since raw MiniDV data stream is sooo dense you'll never be able using USB.

(A 60-minute MiniDV tape will hold approximately 13 Gigabytes of data in this form of usage as the DV video format has a constant data rate of 3.6 Megabytes per second (3.6 MB/s × 60 seconds × 60 minutes = 12,960 MB per hour, divided by 1024 = 12.66 GB per hour) [Wikipedia]

Movie Maker isn't really challenging a software: there's no hidden functions or time to waste comprehending it.
Just have to play with it a bit and cut&paste as it meets your taste.

Re: Video Editing

Ok looking at a few IEEE1394 PC cards on ebay, my camera is a sony so has the (4pin) i link,

Am i better going for something like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...link:middle:uk

or paying a bit more money for
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...link:middle:uk

i already have 6 usb sockets so don't necessarily need any more.

Ideally do i wanna go 4pin - 4pin, or is 4pin to 6pin good enough?

They seem really cheap, are there better ones out there or will these be fine?

Re: Video Editing

Basicaly, whatever fits your camcorder. I bough my card and cable from jessops for 15 quid. Works fine and nos hassles.

As long as it has a firewire port for your cam, anything else is just a bonus.

Re: Video Editing

I'm just stumbling into video editing, so need to learn the basics. the only reason i'm using premier pro is becuase i have a free copy. might try elements if it's easier to use.

Have you got any tips for premier pro for a complete newb?

Are there any FREE tutorials online that i can check out? to get me started?

Anyone know how to edit out numberplates?

Re: Video Editing

Premiere is just a **** to use, same with photoshop. But once you can use it it becomes your best friend.

I'm still at the stage of throwing the pc out the window everytime I try to make a vid.
