Re: Wheelie Help

What gear are you in? Do you start from a dead start or do you just roll in and then hit the gas? Are you putting a lot of weight on the rear? How I learned how to do sit down wheelies is to start from a dead start, put it in second gear, pull in the clutch, give it about 1/2 - 3/4 throttle, and let the clutch out quickly. Once I got better at that I started to coast in second gear, sit far back as I could, be about 1/2 on the throttle then just gun it and the front would just pick right up. I'm not the best at wheelie's, but that's how I do them now.

Re: Wheelie Help

I used to have a 99 400ex I started my wheelies by clutching them in first or second at very slow rolling speeds. If first gear feels to punchy for your tastes then use 2nd for sure. As for rider position i stayed neutral regular riding position. flat pavement is the best place to learn, tire pressure is also important run about 4.5-5psi. if you have the stock ohtsu's.

Re: Wheelie Help

i have a 00 400ex and can pull it up in 1st 2nd and 3rd with out any clutch I just stand up on the pegs then sit down hard on the read of the seat as i punch the gas, but it all depends on where you are in the power band and how much you weigh. Just timing mostly, i pull up second girl high chairs no clutch just by pulling back at the right moment, and my quads all stock.

i weigh about the same, and i start it from a roll all time cause the 400ex has like the best torque a little bit fast than idle, are you sure the 400 is running mint too cause i mean you should be able to pull that thing all the way to the bar with out any clutch or tranfer of weight if you really want,

yeah i bought mine from a guy who got it for his wife and she never rode it but still the values were a little off when I got it, that was the first thing I did and noticed quite a bit more power, but my ext. values were way way off. i think int. is 4/100 and ext. is 5/100 and my ext was like 18/100
