My Z can wheelie at 50!
Fooling around this weekend I found out that I can pull up wheelies at 50+ MPH! On flat pavement in 5th gear, no clutch. My bike is stock with a K&N and Airbox lid off. Can anyone eles's Z do this or is my bike just super cool?

*EDIT* I should rephrase that. I guess if you were bouncing off the rev limiter in 3rd, you could hit like 51MPH. But in order to pull up into a wheelie you would have to be down in the RPMs a little bit, say maybe 4-5000 RPM. 5000 RPM in 3rd gear is only around 28MPH.

I believe ya though! There is some kid on **riders.com saying he can maintain a 70+MPH wheelie on his 400EX! Which is real funny, because I'm pretty sure his bike doesn't go that fast. And he posted some pictures to prove it! Judging by the pics (the blur and the angle) I'd say he's doing maybe 40 tops.. heh

I did my lid / filter and jetting and I have no problem holding my own with piped bikes.
You can probably see speeds of about 65MPH on your Z right now. Maybe a little more. Mathmaticaly, if you could hit the rev limiter (9000rpm) you would be going around almost 75MPH. I'd say 8000 RPM is about all your going to pull in 5th though, which would put you at around 65-66 MPH
Tim and I were able to get our Z's to hit 66 and 65 respectivly and we were still pulling a little bit. But tim's got the stage 3 alba /k&n/air box lid. We were very limited by space, we had a corner that we could go about 45 thru and then had a little less then 1/8 mile to accelerate and then about 30 feet of pavement and 30 feet of dirt to stop in! We will get it on video this weekend if it's nice out.. Funny Stuff!
Maybe we will do some speed runs on our road and see if we can red line it in 5th and get a true top speed reading!

Re: My Z can wheelie at 50!
Bill,
r u sure u guys cant max out a little more than 65?? I was clocked by someone on the highway when i first got mine... they said i was at 72... who knows, though...maybee there sppedo was off a little...but there is a section of highway by my house- er home, i mean(its a trailer!) Anyway, i run beside the highway to get from one trail to another, and i usually max it out in the breakdown lane... and for the most part, by the time i am about topped out, i am starting to climb back up on the cars that were going faster than me. So i figured 70 was about right, but if yours doesn't go that fast, i KNOW mine doesn't, cause i have no mods... let me know

We are trying to find a place where we can max it out this weekend. I'm guessing maybe 68-69MPH on flat pavement.. Maybe 70+ down an incline.
