Re: 400ex HELP!!!!

It SHOULD just bolt on. I really don't think Honda would make a quad that requires frame modifications to change a grab bar. Take it to a local welder or relative and have them make him a 12 bar.

Re: 400ex HELP!!!!

on a 400ex the grab handle is part of the subframe... all years are the same..good news is that its steel, so its easy to weld up.. I know the yammi's and kawis have the bolt-on aluminum ones

Re: 400ex HELP!!!!

They can take a pounding...I'd have somebody throw a bead of weld across mine every once in a while and it was all good. If I didn't do that It would eventually wear right through where the quad scrapes, but other than that I never had any problems with the subframe bending or anything else out of the ordinary.

If he ends up needing a new subframe for some reason then they are pretty easily found in the classfieds sections of most quad websites. Lots of people are parting these quads out on a daily basis. I picked up a subframe for my z400 (same type of setup as the 400ex) for $30.

Re: 400ex HELP!!!!

cut it off, jam a threaded steel rod down each one, and build a bar over it.
or just get a PRM baja bar, bolt it on, and never worry about it.
