Gas overflow problem
just picked up a 99 400ex today. naturally the first thing i did was some wheelies. well, when i get up in the air, the gas is pěssing out of the overflow tube under the machine. i don't want that. how do i stop it? my buddy saw it, and it leaves a trail behind me.
i'm going to be stunting this thing quite heavily, so it's gotta be perfect. any ideas?

I think the only solution is to change carbs. Get one from a Z400...they work well and I think they pretty much mount right up.
I heard about adjusting the float, but some say it's not adjustable or won't work anyway.

i thought that would have worked...guess the gas has to go somewhere though....
get a 6pack rack, and ziptie a gas can back there, run a tube to it, and when you run out of gas just fill it back up....and do it again...

Re: Gas overflow problem
There is one solution...
Go to your local hardware store. Buy the same size tube that the gas comes out of. Make sure you have enough hose to snake under the gas tank towards the handlebars and back up to the breather tube on the gas cap. Attach a splitter to the gas cap tube. Attach the over flow hose to one side of the splitter and the breather tube to the other side. I would use about an inch of tube from the gas cap to the splitter.
So basically, you're dumping the over flow gas right back into the tank. However, if the over flow tube is kinked under the tank in any way... you'll flood the carb out. Good luck and let us know if you try this!

Re: Gas overflow problem
Let it pee.........Scrape and light it on fire :YEAH
I tried the catch bottle and it filled it up QUICK and as soon as it's full it floods out again if you don't pour it off
I also tried rotating the carb, and messin with the floats no luck.
I may try Drew's idia only thing i haven't tried yet. Only because i didn't think of it first.

There's actually two lines on the carb that will **** gas- the line on the bottom and the line on the left side. If you hook one up and leave the other disconnected-it'll still ****. After I discovered that I teed them together and hooked the tee up to the line connected to the tank vent-it bogged and stalled after 1 50ft. wheelie. I thought the reason the gas wasn't returning to the tank was that the air in the tank had nowhere to go-so I added another vent to the gas cap but it didn't help.
Seems to me that the gas that comes out of the overflow tube doesn't have enough pressure to beat gravity
