Not trying to hate on ya bro, just trying to feel ya out and see what kind of deal you got on this. I hope all my former mentioned thoughts and notions are 100% INcorrect, and you got the deal of the year on it...
I just hate it when people pawn there junk on to unsuspecting peeps on ebay. 2001's do have a reputation for there trannys being garbage, and Im just affraid he did not disclose that to you, and where it needs work, there would be no way for you to know that it falls out of second every time you give it gas until you dump money into fixing the other stuff on it, only to have a half-*** quad...

Like I said, I really really hope I am wrong...
and welcome to stuntlife...
www.rockymountainatv.com is a good online site for most any replacement part (tires/wheels, chains, sprockets, axles (those are weak on the raptors too!) etc...
www.denniskirk.com is not too shabby either...
there is a place called shadetree power sports, i do not know there web site off the top of my head (and i am too lazy to look it up right now!!!) i have heard of them, but cannot vouch for them either way cuz i have not ordered from them at all.
A lotta times if i am looking for a particular part, i will price it out thru rocky or dennis kirk, then check ebay to see if i can get a better deal...
shopping around is the trick... keep in mind shipping costs tho... some people jack the shipping up so they can have a lower selling price...
hope this helps man... if you run into any problems, post up on here, im sure someone can point ya in the right direction on how to get it fixed...

Re: just picked up a raptor!

Welcome, I picked up an 01 a couple months ago. I'm already having to put a new gear in the trans, which should hopefully be done tomorrow. If you have any questions about how to fix your raptor, I'll be happy to help. Mine is already tore down to the frame and front suspension, so I've just about taken every bolt off of it almost.

Re: just picked up a raptor!

'01 Raptors had issues with the trannys and with starters. Other than that, they are nice quads. I wouldnt worry about it too much, every quad has it's strengths and weaknesses.
Id stick with a thumb throttle, but if you are used to riding bikes a twist throttle might feel more natural for you. Im used to riding snowmobiles and ATVs, so for me a twist throttle feels awkward.
