400ex questions

I'm thinkin about getting a different quad. Preferably a 400ex. I have a couple questions. Are they a good all around quad? Motocross/stunting/trailriding/dunes, etc. Are they reliable? Do they have problems with frames breaking? I know they're a little slower than a z or kfx, but also considerably cheaper. I'm just trying to figure out which direction I want to go. Thanks.

Re: 400ex questions

Wuz up jay
All around Great quad is right.
I keep hearing how the z is faster I'm not getting that mutch
I've run hairscrambles, motocross and flat tracks and I DON'T SEE IT.
My buddy loves his !! they come with better stock front shocks than a ex.
I don't know, I like wheelieing my buddy's z it's LOVE, but I like my ex's better and they fit me well.

If your going to do alot of motocross bigger than 60ft jumps I'de reinforce the frame they do have a few weak spots. I beat the **** out of mine and raced a season on it and now stuntin it and NO engine or clutch problems.

No need to flame on me guys. I just love my ex's and I always will.

Re: 400ex questions

my EX eats the trails up. gnarly hill climbs ain't ****. buy one with reverse if ur gonna be in the woods... and you're a girly man. i come to a dead end i just grab the front bumper and swing'er around. be a man.

but yea man, reliable as hell. don't know about the frames cuz i only jump occasionally but handles awesome and sucks up bumps pretty sweetly.

honda power baby. you'll never go back to yamaha again, promise.

Re: 400ex questions

oh yea. as for speed/power. z is all top end. ex is bottom.

TRANSLATION: my brothers Z will beat my EX in a drag race. but my EX power wheelies in 5th like its nothin, just bounce it. the Z- you have to clutch the hell out of it just to get it up in 4th.

Re: 400ex questions

these 3 bikes are soooo close in engine performance it aint even funny.
Here's a pic from last year a local race Southern Ohio speedway 1/2 MILE oval
I have full access to the track and keys for the facility. We run it often.
My buddy's 04 kfx , My 00 red 400ex :YEAH
I even made time to wave at the camera on the last lap

Both quads have an advantage in diff. spots on the track but the ex provailed
most every time

On the real topic, If you go with a ex ????????
If your just stuntin it leave it stock, maybee slip on only.
Here's what I figured out messing with both of mine and tryin all diff. intake and exhaust combonations to see which was smooothest on the gas.

My yellow one - full white bro. race exhaust, k&n airfilter, choke block off

my red one - stock air box and filter, stock choke, slip on exhaust.

the red one -right off idle smoooth and set it and forget it :YEAH
the yellow one -little more touchy more of a hair trigger, but I doubt any faster . deff better off the line.

truthfully you can't go wrong with either one, but these guys know more about what makes a good stunt quad than I do soooooooooo

I know crappy pics

Re: 400ex questions

mine stalls out when i slow it down alot, but other than that i love my 400. I dont know how it compares to other quads cuz it seems like everyone that rides is slow around here. I should not be passing yz450s on it
