For all The Smart People Out there
Well Heres A math question... I wonder if anyone can answer it..... Lets see how smart you are
Find an aproximate value for the rate at which the moon orbits the earth. Assume that the moon's orbit is circular.
Hint: the average distance betweeen the earth and the moon is 382,000,000 meters.
This really isnt a hard question... Lets see if anyone can get it!!!
I was at school today and this question came up... Its simple!!!

Re: For all The Smart People Out there
A dumb person wrote that book.
Here is how I found the answer:
Givens: R=382,000,000m
Sovle:
C=pi*D Where D=2*R
So D=764,000,000
So C=2400176787.3226
Here is where the problem gets stupid I know the author of the book is assuming the moon travels around the earth once a day, but it only travels around it once every 27.3217 days.
So C/27.3217= 87,848735.1564 m/day
or 3,660,363.96485 meter/hour
or 0.6317902 mile/second
or 87,848,735,156.4 millimeter/day
or 32.9406404 nautical mile/minute
or 0.2105963 league/second [statute]
or 1,976.4384259 knot
or 3,458,611,620.330708 inch/day
or 1,016.767768 benz
My guess is that it is not a math question, but an example on how you should always be careful to consider if all of the info you need is there before you start working.

You Are correct in a way it was a math question... Simple as it maybe and yes your answer is right niner...
But to all who read the question this was a simple d=r.t question that was all... You see the question just seemed like it was going to be diffucult the way they worded it....
Niner you are correct!!!
