Question Need your opinion

As many of you know I was about to buy a 954 for a great price...However I was offered a RC51 brand new for $9100 out the door.(the 954 was $8350 out the door). I have never owned a Vtwin any advice on which one I should get? Bike will not be used for stunting....

get the 954. the rc was designed for racing not street riding, its cramped and gets REAL hot in traffic. and you think the seat is hard on the 954, the rc's is a piece of plywood wraped in fake leather. wind protection and gas milage are better on the 954 too. plus its better for wheelies. ( i know no stunnin, but you'll do a wheelie here and there, its the law)

take my word on it and buy the 954. the SuperHawk isn't as bad as redno is cutting it out to be (Redno Shhhh! - first you ruin john's chances of selling his truck on here, now you're gonna ruin the chances of me selling my bike! ).
yeah, the motor blew in it once (manufacturer defect), the tail light needed to be re-wired, and now i need a new battery.....but its still not that bad.
having ridden a weaker rc and the 954, i'd definetly go with the 954.

54 all the way

Mikey,
Why are we even having this thread?
Forget the RC51, you will have more fun on the 954. Trust me, why do you think I bought mine.
I've ridden both and the RC51 is fun but it gets old fast. All you hear is the thumping of the twins. Thats all you focus on.

Plus if your going to tear up the twistys, you will not like the way that the RC51 backs off the throttle. This is due to the back pressure from the V-Twin. The bike looses speed fast when the throttle is cut.

But its your money and your bike. Make sure you test ride both before you buy. If the dealer won't let you test ride, go to another dealer.

Later and good luck,
954john

I did test ride both bikes and John yes you are right about the throttle but the one reason why I dont like my R1 is because there is no meat to the front end of the bike the same as the 954. Plus I am going to leave the bike stock no mods and the front end on the 9 is too too loose. I wish I could have my original 929 back (what a dumb for getting rid of it.) Thanks for the input.....

I think I am going to go with the RC I had them pull it off the showroom floor last night....Still waiting for DGY to correct the f-up they did on my title for my R1.....Note to self and others when buying a new bike make sure the VIN# on your bike matches your paperwork.....Because mine did not I now have to wait for a new title to sell my R1 which could take several weeks....Hopefully the buyer doesnt find another bike or I am screwed.....Thanks to DGY....I will say they have been doing everything possible to help correct the mistake..

There are a lot more parts out and around for the 54.
There was not as many 51's made. They wont be makig anymore 51's, I heard that they might be a colecter item??

Good luck on your search! I say you just wait and get a new '04 and spend 1000 more bucks..04's are the future of the liter bike.

We are coming to the end of the season...you wont be riding much....and have you seen the new honda 1000 or the new 180hp R1?

Question 954

I think I'd go with the 954. I had a 99 TL1000R and didn't like the thing at all. Granted the RC is a different machine, but isn't a twin a twin? The things I didn't like about mine were it ran hotter than hell in traffic. The seat posistion was like your on top of the bike, but with nuts into the tank and that's a big ! The hardest thing to get use to was the long wheel base. While riding through a turn it felt like I was on a bike and a half. Go with the 954. You've seen what the bike can do.
