That's not dry rot, that is the adhesive. Look at the new seal. There is a red adhesive on it. Use brake cleaner. Don't repack them, just get some diff fluid on them. The Fords don't have sealed bearings o you don't use grease. They are fed with diff fluid from the axle housing so you don't want to clog up that system with grease. Just put some diff fluid on them so they don't run dry before the diff fluid from the axle housing gets up to them.

That's weird. The Porche dealership doesn't surprise me though. I'd expect the lug nuts to be torqued by hand if I'm paying a $120 an hour shop rate.

no so far just the right rear

my dumbass packed grease in the hub bearings too - hopefully doesn't cause anything to sieze ... i know mixing lubricants is not good ...

left side will be preventative maintenance after i get back from indy ... did put a 08 rear diff cover on ... looks nice

jobs like that are much easier with 2 people ... especially when one has done it ... I feel I could service the other side bearings/hub in the rear in 2 hours now that I know what I'm doing ....

If I had to do it again I would pay the macine shop by my house to swap out the ball joints, u-joints, and press in the axle seal.
