I'd bet the vehicle body harness power wire isn't hooked up. The entire truck would be dead and it wouldn't matter if there was large gauge power to the starter because the ignition switch activates the solenoid (relay).

There's no main fuse. They'd all have to be bad for your symptoms. Your new power wires, do they just run from the alt to the batteries and to the starter solenoid? Like Niner said, there has to be a connection to rest of the truck somewhere.

Completely dead=the body harness wire wasn't hooked up. You know that there is more to hook up to the battery than the starter and the ground right? The wires hook up to the passenger battery.
I ran the positive cable first, hooked both wires up at the starter, then ran it up and hooked up the prong looking connector for the starter solenoid relay on the fenderwell then hooked up that battery (main) then ran it across and hooked up the secondary battery. Then hooked up the two grounds.

Alternator and power wires. It's a dual battery system as well.

The only good info I have gotten from that site is the writeups on ball joints and wheel bearings and where to buy parts. As far as trouble shooting, there are a lot of guys on there who don't know **** but think they do.

This problem started with new power cables.

Niner's right, you're missing a wire.

if you didn't crimp in a wire to power the truck that is your problem.

Re: Semi work safe

did you get a heavy duty alternator that required a different plug ? just asking because if you switch the field wire you could run in to problems like this

I thought the starter solenoid power was what connected to the rest of the truck ...

I have the old cable at home - they reused the pronged connector that goes to the starter solenoid relay ...

Same alternator. It had bad diodes and was fixed. It wasn't new, sorry.

There is a connector for a couple of small gauge wires and one large gauge wire. No idea where they go in they system, but the alternator isn't the issue if the truck won't even get power tot the radio. My alternator is in Tennesee and I can still use the key fob to unlock my doors and listen to the radio.

I didn't know there were wires he didn't replace. I thought he replaced all the heavy gauge wires. With a heavy duty alternator, I'd want to replace the positive wire that runs to the batteries.

Not having my truck right infront of me I can't be 100% sure, but I am 99% sure that there are 2 or 3 wires that need to be powered by the main pasenger side battery.
