r6 gas tank

Re: r6 gas tank
You started in the wrong spot... you should always try and get the cap portion to dent first. Thats the hardest part is getting the cap area to dent down with the rest of the tank. I like to use a dead blow to get the cap area dented in and then I work the metal with a dolly or a flat hammer to manipulate the metal. You are wayyyyy to screwed now. Once the tank creases, you don't stand a chance to fix that. Sorry man, that tank is trash. Start over, or if you know someone who can weld, cut the entire top portion of the tank of, get yourself a new sheet of steel and fabricate a top to it.

Re: r6 gas tank
it is kinda saveable, i done the same **** up to mine but eventually saved it, use a car panel beating hammer and it's easy, bit of bondo and then a quick spray paint and you can sort it..
mine went from this: (not quite as ****ed as yours, but it was rippled and I fixed it.. )
to this :YEAH
start in center and work out again, use that hammer i said to use (may be called dead blow hammer too) you will probably crack it now that its rippled, so you'll just have to fix it with some liquid metal

Re: r6 gas tank
hey no hatin in this, but i'm just outta laugh, this may be some of the funniest mdented tank i saw
i know some are shitty to dent so that's why i actually don't hate but i must say the pic just made me fall out of my chair haha
now it's gone wrong, hit the cap jumpin on it with both ur two foots on it and then make it look good with a rubber mallet that's how i got mine back better

Re: r6 gas tank
haha everyones hatin on this tank!
first of all your workin with one of the hardest tanks to dent, so take your time. take a ballpien hammer and try to flatten out those creases
work on poppin that cap down so its flush with the angle of the dent, then use some bondo to make it look supa fly! post up some pics when your done with it

Re: r6 gas tank
I'm hatin... that is the ugliest dent I've ever seen Only thing you can do is beat it like a red-headed stepchild.
do yourself a favor and get a new tank... start fresh at the cap and work back a bit. I got a buddy that just did his R6 and used a bit of bondo to clean it up cuz he couldn't get the ridges perfect, so I'll get a pic of it when I ride with him next...
if you keep beating yours take the cap off cuz you'll shatter it with the amount of pain you're gonna have bring
