Cracked frame
Ok I have 2 small cracks in my frame right under the tank. One on each side of the bike on the inside. Can anyone help a brother out with some one that is "real good" at welding??
Mark you jinxed me man!! Just kidding... We were just talking about this on Thursday and BANG I seen it today after riding at Shakopee.
So if anyone knows anyone, please let me know.
1 more thing, would it be better to fix it or do a claim on it? I hate to do a claim, but I do still have it covered.

Re: Cracked frame
i'd say fix it man, to do a claim is a huge headache. i got this stuff called alumaloy, and it works great, you can weld aluminum with just a $10 propane torch, real strong, i annihilated my magneto cover (aka left side crankcase cover) and broke off one of the ears that it actually bolts into the block, so it leaked oil real slow, a drop here and there just enough to **** me off, and i custom fabricated a new ear with this stuff, i also fixed my buddies clutch lever, which he broke in half. do a yahoo search on alumaloy, theres also hts-2000 which is a little bit stronger. this kindof product has been around for longer than i've been alive, and it'll blow the doors off j-b weld. and the prices of joe shmuckatelli's welding services. it only costs 40 bucks for enough to last you for years.

Yea, I looked into that stuff online and I do not think I can get the area up to that kind of temp without melting some parts. Still going to look into it a bit more though. Thanks

Don't fix it? I don't wanna die on it!! I just slapped some JB on it, so I will see what happens to it. I think I should just claim it and move on to another bike to be honest..
I must add these are only 2 little hair line cracks that are only about a inch or so long.

Re: Cracked frame
These cracks are not something that can be fixed with some "remedy." Voodo and glue dont work!!! Get it welded or get rid of the bike. Do you really want to be going 60mph in a wheelie on the highway only to set it down and have your front en fall off the bike sending you tumbling? I thought not. If you prep the bike by clearing the area of obstructions and clean the area to bare metal (an inch on either side of the crack) it wont be that expansive to get welded. Just get it done right. Also, don't forget that your insurance rates will go up for totaling out your bike. Just a few things to consider-

Re: Cracked frame
Only problem with having it welded is it is so close to the motor/fuel rail and other parts, so to do this I would have to just about remove the motor.
I understand about the insurance claim. But with the next bike I would only carry the min.
But am looking into getting it welded. Still a good bike for what I want it for.
Anyways you want that front sprocket? I have one as long as the one off a 01 will fit your 05 ..

Re: Cracked frame
as for the insurance hike delima, call and get a new policy started with an alternate company. (theres no law stating you cant be double covered) then once you claim your bike on the original insurance company and get paid, drop them. the new company will never know you made a claim, and just switch the new coverage onto the new bike. Gieco is a great place to get the new ins. way cheap. I pay 169 for the yr
