ebay bike ripoffs?
has anyone had experience with buying a bike off ebay? i've been lookin at like 02' 600's mint condition for like 3000$...... is there a catch to these bikes? i've got the itch to get something- and pending the parents permission (they are paying for my college- so i have to keep them somewhat happy....) i will buy one. i've used ebay, and cant seem to find anything wrong with these auctions.... any help appreciated!-hopefully i'll be attempting to stunt soon!!! Re: ebay bike ripoffs?
I haven't actually done one of those deals, but I'm nearly positive they are ripoffs...from the ones I looked at, the sellers have little to no feedback, and what they do have is either from buying something, or from selling a little 5 dollar pen or something. I have emailed several of those sellers, asking if I would be able to come out and pick it up, and pay then, and surprise surprise they don't ever write me back. So yeah, your best to avoid those auctions.

is there a way where i could kinda back him into a corner and force someone to sell me a bike for what they advertised? i've had decent experience with ebay so far, and was wondering how it is they can advertise something and not come through, arent they gonna screw themselves since it is a "binding contract" and stuff? i'm all too tempted with a bike.... i'm gonna start emailing sellers... - Paul

I've seen a few of the scams you are talking about. This one guy was trying to sell an R6 as an R1. The ad said R1, but when you looked at the the bike it was clear that it wasn't. I would never buy a bike without seeing in person, that is just asking for trouble. If you feel the ad is a hoax then report them to ebay and see what happens.

lots of times they will close the auction early if they dont get what they want for the item---

Re: ebay bike ripoffs?
trust me don't do it... You'll get an email from a seller "overseas" claiming that once you send them the money they will send you the bike.. Often times these sellers selling the $3000 bikes will have several of them for sale (all ripoffs). Rest assured buddy that they will get your dough sent to them by money order only and be on their way. Also, the reason the "binding" thing doesn't matter is because they often have hacked into someone else's account selling these bikes and within a couple of days I would almost guarantee that the auction will no longer be there. Listen to me and the other dudes on here about this DO NOT SEND YOUR MONEY to anyone claiming to be giving you a newer, mint bike for only 3gnotes

Re: ebay bike ripoffs?
I also have seen a few of these overseas cheap bikes. Some people from a local sportbike club I'm in tried to get info from different ads like it to see if it was a good deal or not, they all came back with scam, scam, scam. I also checked into one when I was looking for a bike, it seemed like too good of a deal also with the possibility of getting screwed out of my hard earned money. So I just waited for a bike that I could see and hear before I put any money down. Don't do it. Be safe and save your money for a solid deal.

Re: ebay bike ripoffs?
Yea theres been alotta ripoffs on Ebay recently; look for fake pictures or duplicates, vin #, email them, lots of positive feedback, call them, ask for more pictures, if noone is bidding there must be a reason, make sure its in the U.S., don't make a deal outside of ebay, etc.
P.S.- sometimes you can ask the seller to do something to prove that the aution is genuine; such as requesting a pic of the item with a pice of paper that has your name on it, etc. cause if they really wanted to sell the item then it wouldn't be a ridiculous request.

Re: ebay bike ripoffs?
A few of my friends got their bike off ebay. It's all about the seller's rep. I will most likely get mine from there if i find what i am looking for. In all honesty, it is the most organized form of bikes for sale around. I plan on sticking to local bike that i can see and test out before i bid. Try calling the seller also to get one on one conversation about the bike. If he knows his stuff, he;ll answer quickly.. but if he is making stuff up it generally takes longer for replies.

Hey Blink,
Dunno what country your in but under contract law in Oz it's just an 'invitation to treat'. Which means that he's offering you an opportunity to make an offer. Regarding buying a bike on ebay, use it to look for sales - I do. If you see one you like in your area get in contact and ask him/her to let you look at it. Then if you like, deal like normal. But buying sight unseen, hell no. There's no guarentee the sucker will even run.

Hey guys, my boyfriend bought a bike off of ebay at the beginning of the year for about $2500, the bike needed a little cosmetic work, but other than that it was fine. Just look for the user's history and see how their feedback is.
