Hello and quick & easy 1st bike Question
Looking at picking my first bike up soon. One I have in mind is a 96 GSXR750 w/~16500 miles on it. I think this would be a great starter bike (I used to race a 97 yz250 back in high school). First off the bike is in descent shape from what I saw, not A+ but good.
Thanks anyone that can help as I want to start riding!
- Is this a good year for the GSXR750's?
- Besides the basics, is there anything specific to look for wrong/right on this bike
- is 16.5K miles anything to worry about if it hasn't been rebuilt? What sort of compression should it test to?
- Lastly, how much should I pay for this? Has a few bolt on mods and I would give it a 5-6 out of 10 and I am a semi good judge of a bike
Thanks anyone that can help as I want to start riding!

Re: Hello and quick & easy 1st bike Question
Well for a 96 750 you should not pay over $4,000. If it is in bad shape I would say not more than $3,500. I think you could get it cheaper than these prices but it depends on where you are. As far as the miles, I would not worry about it until it hits 30,000. These bikes were made for indurance. Just check everything, hear it run, and arrange transportation before you decide for sure and add taxes to get the ball park figure close to what it is actually going to be. FYI I have a 95 CBR600 with 98 plastics, spinning brake lights, 2 brothers exhaust, carbon fiber looking graphics, aluminum fiber gas cap cover, honda grips...ect. Great starter bike and pleanty fast. I am asking $3,500. I will post some pics and such but right now my account for this site is not 100% active yet as I am new also. Hope that helps!

Thanks again guys, I think the 96 would be a good choice as it is local, and appears to be ok. He is asking ~3300 btw
