Hey guys,
I finally made it! I have been floating around the site and have learned a lot just poking around.
Here is my story. Three years ago I didn’t know too much about bikes. All I knew was that I wanted one! A friend of a friend (who is your typical douchbag*) had a lowsided 05 GSXR 600 for sale. I figured this was the perfect bike for me. If I drop it, who cares? It’s already screwed, if I crash it and live, who cares? It’s already screwed… I have had the bike for three years now and, knock on wood, haven’t crashed. Plenty of close calls though. I am trying to bring this bike back from the dead. Here it is.
When I got it, it had just over 4000 miles on it. He shittily tried to “repair” the bike by throwing some terrible eBay fiberglass fairings on it. They made the bike run a little on the hot side so I took them off.
When he crashed, one of the motor mounts on the frame broke.
I posted up on GIXXER.com and asked what I should do to repair it. Most advised a new frame was in order. Against better judgment I cut it straight with the intention to weld a piece I fabbed up for it. I never got around to it though. In the long run it worked out better because I just picked up a new/used frame for it! SCORE!
Since I am going to go through the agony of swapping the frame, I figured this would be a good time to got most of the typical stunt mods out of the way. My goal with this is to keep it streetable for now. I cannot quite afford another bike. I would like to ease into stunting until I can afford another bike and not worry about this one taking a hit or two.
Plans:
-Better Cheap ABS PLASTIC fairings.
-Cage (I was looking at the Tigershark ones. Anything better for the money and still go through the twisties?)
-Dented tank
-Oil pick-up (still going to do it even if I can get away with just filling it to the top of the sight glass. $60 is cheap insurance. I’m so crazy, I might do both.)
-Subframe I have to figure out something… From what I understand, OMR isn’t making them anymore. I found this> http://www.r-r-racing.com/subframes.html but I’m not sure it will hold up to stunting. I don’t know. TBD I guess. My stock one feels like it’s going to crumble when I try and do stand ups.
-SS brake lines and brake pads.
-520 chain with +5 rear sprocket (for now)
-Flip Clip-ons
-Fix the, stiff as high fiber ****, clutch
-Shorty levers
-Disable the Tip-over sensor
My last question for now… Since I have the good frame stripped, has anyone taken the liberty to weld on it in an effort to reinforce it anywhere?
Thanks for any help in advance. Maybe I will actually know what I am doing one day.
*He is a typical douchbag because he went out and bought this bike, brand new, with ZERO riding experience and crashed it within 4000 miles, then decided not to pay on it anymore. Sucked real bad for his girlfriend at the time, because she financed it for him….
