Re: Another new guy from MI
I was northeast of LA about two hours working at China Lake Naval Air Station (little high desert town called Ridgecrest) not far from Death Valley.
I rode with the AV Sportriders out of Palmdale, a little canyon carving group we started that grew pretty fast, we mainly rode the Angeles Crest, San Gabriels, and Ojai areas. I also rode around the Sierra Nevadas and Death Valley area on my own a lot. I miss those roads!
Where did you ride in CA?

When I lived out there I didn't ride, that was about 10 or so years ago. I go back a couple times a year though. I ride with Coast2Coast Ridaz in San Diego.

Yeah, Ridgecrest was brutally hot, worse than what I'd experinced in Phoenix and Vegas. I'd ride my old harley down from the mountains into town, the temperature would go from 80 to sometimes over 115 in about 4 miles, like riding into an oven. I never complain about heat anymore.
The mountain riding was awesome, unfortunately I got to see two of my friends at different times med chopper airlifted and more nasty little crashes than I can want to recall. I ended up hitting a bridge railing and bodily fell somersaulting 35 feet into a ravine landing face first, I somehow survived that. I was a lot less cocky after that one...

I never rode as far south as San Diego. I assume you've ridden Palomar Mountain with them? I've seen some crazy helmet-cam videos from there, that is one insane ride.

I hate mountain driving in my car, let alone the bike, I've seen more than my fair share of accidents up there.
Who you riding with out here?

Re: Another new guy from MI
Actually the first time I rode with them was last weekend when I was out there, was supposed to go do a canyon ride but wasn't able to make it that day. I just ended up riding biotch along the coast in Oceanside, most of the guys live on base over there.

Lucky you getting to visit so recently. I haven't been back yet, too much ovetime at work I've been wanting to fly in to Palm Springs, they have bike rentals right in the airport, very cool, then head over to LA and Palmdale and see my old buds, maybe go party out on Catalina. Just no time though right now.
Here I've been mostly riding on my own and with a couple guys from the ZRX group I met here recently, but I haven't hooked up with any actual sportbike groups here yet. I was big into ABATE in CA, so I may join their local Muskegon chapter, but they don't offer much for sportriders, that would be for my dirtbag berr swilling alterego
I mostly ride the lakeshore north of Muskegon, and hit the M110/M22 route through the leelanau penn area, not a bad road, very scenic. I've done M119 and part of the UP. I'm heading up to M22 Saturday if I can get away from work.
Where do you ride here in MI and who with?

Re: Another new guy from MI
yeah, I don't know what the hell I did. I somehow had two windows up with stuntlife.com in both of them and screwed something up. It's like when I'm at home drinking and on the computer. They call me a software engineer, I think that is a mistake
