Newbie with a question on wheelies...

Hey everyone just wanted to ask for help with the clutch work side of wheelies. I have a R6 and succesfully did my first wheelie today :YEAH anyways I didnt keep it up for that long nor did I get it at all close to the balance point because I did a power wheelie instead of using the clutch.

My question is could someone go into some more detail about how exactly to clutch a wheelie. Are you pulling the clutch in halfway or just to the friction point? Do you totally pop the clutch out or do you ease it out. How high do your RPMs get when you finally engage the clutch. (2nd gear wheelies btw).

Thanks for any help

What's up bro, read the sticky in the top of the noobie forum, not blasting u, but it is pretty informative. I have an 04 R6 and you can wheelie it in first and second, probably third if you have the skills, 2nd and 3rd while standing that is. Again read the sticky,

Re: Newbie with a question on wheelies...

Great... I actually had already read that sticky and felt that it really didnt address my question. It was fairly vague regarding clutch work and technique. I am looking for a more in depth answer. For example I can power wheelie in first no prob the only hard part I am having is that when i go into second and try clutching it the bike just lunges forward. I am just wondering do i need to engage the clutch faster or do i need higher rpms or both? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey bro. I'm far from an expert, and actually just learning myself, but one thing that I've figured out about clutching is that when you engage the the clutch, you should already be rolling on the throttle. In other words, don't let off the throttle, then pull in the clutch, and then rev. Your rpm's should be rising as you pull in the clutch. I hope tha helps.

Hmmm! Now that I think of it I have been cutting the throttle off... Wow Thanks alot man I really appreciate your help! So I basically PULL CLUTCH then at the same time (or a little before) roll the throttle! :YEAH

Keep the throttle on before you clutch. Basically slowly roll on the throttle, as the rpms are slowly rising and your gaining speed, slip clutch in and give more gas at the same time, and let clutch out. You shouldn't be coasting as you pull the clutch in. You should already be on the gas as you pull the clutch in.
