Re: Omr Subcage !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
chito and omr, i need your opinion.....
austin (6 yo) started to 'throw fits' about a month after we moved in with mike....he's never thrown fits before, i don't get what's going on with him...he will cry 'you broke my feelings, you break my heart, nobody likes me, everyone is mean to me'...pretty much over nothing.
how do i get this to stop?
normally i'll give him whatever he wants to shut him the hell up....i should probably stop doing that shouldn't i? i should just put my foot down and stand by what i had originally said instead of giving in to get him to shut up.
today for example, we get home, i tell him he can go to his friends house once he's done w/homework, cleaning his room, and cleaning up HIS mess downstairs...not his sisters, just his. well, he gets his room clean, he goes downstairs and starts to FREAK OUT because there was a lot of her toys and only some of his on the floor and that she made a big huge mess that he has to clean up and blah blah blah. so i tell him 'wtf, i said you only had to clean up your mess, what's wrong with you'. he doesn't get what i was telling him (mainly because he's throwing a fit about the mess she had made and he wasn't hearing what i said) and continues to freak out....i get made and tell him to forget going to his friends house....
that was at 315.
he's been crying off and on about it ever since.
help lol.

Seriously, he's overly sensitive. My 5 yo nephew is the same way. Give him a hug and try to calm him down. Then explain exactly what he has to pick up. Immediately cancelling plans throws my nephew into further fits. Maybe Austin is similar.
My nephew doesn't deal with change very well. He gets mean and crys at the drop of a hat.

Re: Omr Subcage !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know you didn't ask me but .....
He is probably having issues with another man being in the picture regularly that gets attention. Thats my guess, at 6 thats a huge change for him.
Giving him whatever to get him to stop is the worst thing you can do
Kids don't have the same inhibitions and control as adults so behavior like this (temper tantrums) means there is something he is trying to express but doesn't know how to yet.
Have you tried to have a conversation and ask him why he thinks "nobody likes him"? Is he having problems fitting in with people at school? Is he in any clubs or activities? Have you had any reports from teachers about any out of the ordinary behavior?
Is it a self esteem issue?

he's calmed down completely now...the fit lasts anywhere from 5 min to an hour. he's grounded to his room for the rest of the night, but i did let him take his nintendo ds with him.
my aunt just called and told me that....she said it's still on top of the hudson river and it hasn't went under yet...so that's good.
