World Stunt Championship - Round II (UK)

Well, that was both superb and utterly garbage at the same time.
Obviously, when you're watching riders like Farias, Pfeiffer, Ribeiro,
and new riders to the Euro scene like Tony D riding, then there's no
way in Hell the show/comp could be anything but superb

But on the other side of the coin you have a comp that could've been
organised better by an Ebola-riddled monkey who's spent the night
drinking home-made vodka while chewing on huge handfuls of mescaline.
Throw in mind-numblingly stupid rules that neither the riders or the
judges seem to fully understand, and a competition structure that means
one rider can score dramatically more points than another purely because
he saw someone waving a flag before the other guy did and you get a so-
called Championship where rider talent and skill plays second fiddle to
how well one marshal waves a flag

In other words - it was complete bollocks!

Oh yeah, and don't expect too many downloads from this 'comp', either,
as the organisers refused to let anyone film if that footage was to be
used on a video or DVD - and yes, that includes the riders themselves!

Still, at least the riders put on their usual displays of amazing
machine control. It was cool, too, to finally see Tony D on a bike that
he obviously felt a lot happier on than the last time I saw him at Burns
Day

I'll be very surprised if the appalling lack of organisation and the
utterly appalling attitude shown to the riders doesn't very seriously
affect any other comps these people ever try to put on again. I just
hope people who've never been to the UK before don't judge the rest of
us by these people's lack of professionalism

As for the results, which don't do certain riders any justice what so
ever, here's the final positions from the day:

As for who the World Champion is ... well done Humberton Ribeiro!

But this shows how **** the organisation and rules are ... Pfeiffer lost
the Championship because he didn't do three doughnuts around a cone in
the time allowed. Humberto deserves the World crown - but to win it this way simply isn't right...

Big change is about to happen, though...

Although Mr. D'Orsi wasn't best pleased with the show organisers, he at least went home with a copy of Streetfighters magazine ... with him on the cover

What he didn't seem to go home with, however, was all the bike parts that he'd had sent over which mysteriously 'disappeared'

Seriously though--huge congrats to Tony for reppin' the US at the World Stunt Champs! Just being there is a huge victory for the US stunt world, not to mention his top-ten finish. Forget about one-off comps at some dragstrip in Nowheresville, USA, this is the kind of stuff that the US motorcycle industry is going to stand up and pay attention to. No matter how anyone feels about TD, every stunt rider out there who ever hopes to make a buck or gain recognition riding a bike owes Tony big props for the hard work he did this summer just to get to perform at the World Stunt Championships, which required personal sacrifices that few of you will understand (not to mention huge out-of-pocket expenses).

Again, sincere congratulations to him--a perfect way to finish off an incredible summer for Tony which saw him performing in front of huge crowds in Australia, Burns Day France, living and training with none other than AC Farias in Spain, and now, being recognized as one of the eight best stunters in the world! Can't wait to see what next year brings.

Speed Bikes? Not sure, but I doubt it--it's written in French so it would likely have limited appeal on US shelves. It's packed with stunt content though. You might be able to get a copy through the mag's Web site: http://www.motoetmotards.com/home.cfm

Streetfighters is relatively easy to find, on stands at most Barnes and Nobles up here in the Midwest.

I was at Donnington comp, I agree with Veg Dave - the way it wa run was so wrong for Stunting. Not Punk Enough!
There's way better formats for this kind of sport, check out the way Skaters, BMXers and Snowboarders run their comps - it's not Olympic Gymnastics or an Equestrian event - there's little need for rules.

Head to Head shootout formats with the crowd response being the judges guide is the most entertaining format. UK crowds are quiet at the best of times (Sheffield SX is another story!) the jam format or shootouts get the crowd behind the riders and encourage wilder 'upping the ante' style riding.

I vote ME as organiser for the next event - oh yeah, maybe put in on in the summer months would help too.
Donningtons Moto1 event was still one of the best motorcycling events I've been to, something for everyone.

I think he actually lost 80 points - but the qualifying points weren't then included in the total score and Tony wore enough protection in the two actual Championship rounds to not loose any points in the final total ... if that makes sense to anyone

Dave sumed it up pretty good about the venue. As far as the judgeing and event chordination, in the qualifier--
a monkey shitfight at a zoo probably best describes it...
SSB and Hyperpro US shipped me parts that arrived at the track but never made it into my possession for whatever reason,
I lost 50 points in the qualifer because of my attire on saturday which consisted of a hooded sweatshirt, fullface, jeans,and gloves, i could have been told something during the riders meeting but i guess the judges felt like it was too much effort to bring the subject up

in the main event I suffered a 35 point blow to my overall score after I conformed and used a jacket, I was also wearing jeans, a FULL face and gloves, I did not have on socks so that issue came up. nor did not have on any underware either but the panel of judges did not investigate that far

I traveled pretty far to go to donnington and i guess i might have overlooked the obvious, I made it there in 1 piece with a running bike, to me, that was the most important-- I changed my last euroes for pounds wich left me with enough money to survive off continental breakfast and chocolate milk for the 5 days i was there prior to the comp, It never really occured to me that people would pass judjement on me for the way I was dressed to this extent. It was the "world" stuntriding championships so I expected open minded people to be in control.
of course i had a fit with the head judge and his response to me was the image for the event has to meet their standard---and I guess in a way he was right especially when all of the other riders have factory support and are dressed up like billboards. so i guess they looked at me like some bum or something.
but its all good, in the end the top 3 truly earned their positions regardless of the politics, so the difference between 5th and 8th really dosent matter.
At the end I was not the one trying to do their tricks,they were trying to do mine...
We will take 8th place for the USA in the worlds on the chin this time, getting the US on the boards in the top 10 is whats important.

A very special thank you to Aaron Frank and the rest of the staff of Super Streetbike Mag for being there for me as if we were in the same room although we are contenients apart the entire time ive been overseas.

true and sounds simple, but picture this--- be at the WSRC by yourself ,where people think you come from a land of freaks, in a place where things are looked at differently and you are the only one who thinks you are normal and you are comfortable with the way you do things cause you have been doing it that way for years, when you have sacrificed everything just to get to this place you colud not afford to buy food, and then people pass judgement on you for the way you look and express yourself because they feel their way is the way it has to be and then they publicly make a spectacle out if you..

If I had gear that I trained in and I was comfortable in,sure no problem--
but not at the last minute just to satisify people that were simply just trying to prove a point.

Whats really funny is alot of riders were wearing regular un padded motocross gear and or casual riding gear from the brands with clearly no protention
