Re: R 1

Here a pics of a '01 and the new '04 in FULL action. I ride the '01 all the time, and like it alot. I don't see what everyone is whining about. It is a LITTLE shakey in high speed wheelies - definatly not for beginers.

Re: R 1

you can stunn anything, but the R1 sucks for slow stuff, sucks for stoppies, and has serious build quality issues from repeated stunting. the rearsets tend to snap (peg bolts) sending you flying off the bike at 80mph or whatever.. so buy some aftermarket rearsets.. your life is worth the $350. i've been stunting R1's since 2002, and they're fun bikes, great for highway stuff.. wheelieable in every gear with some finesse. stoppies, don't expect to break 250 feet.. the engine is too far near the *** of the bike. BP is nice and high but that just takes getting used to.. myself and nick (other apex guys) both had highway for miles on the R1 back in Seattle (no time to stunt since I moved to NV). subframes are weak as hell, so 12's are not very feasible, and the pre-2002's had welded subframes so when you bend them the frame is garbage. pre-2002's also were carbed so they wont run at 12. also, if you run them at 12 a lot (2002+) the motor will blow from oil starvation.

if you want to get good at stunting, i would say buy a cheap honda that's crunchy. if you want to have a litre bike with tons of power, and ride around doing wheelies or stoppies to flex skills on people who arent stunters, buy an R1. if you get one, definitely get a damper.. i can't imagine doing stuff now without it, so much less twitchy, no more 100mph headshakes.
