Cam chain tensioner

I have a 96 F3, that rattles very badly when I first start it. Everyone has said that it's the chain tensioner. Just wondering if I'm gonna have to replace the chain and sprockets too, or is more than likely just the tensioner. I have about 13,000 miles on it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Cam chain tensioner

yeah, its the cam chain tensioner if the rattle disappears when you rev it up to like 3000rpm. The stock CCT is hydraulic, after a while, it doesnt work as well and the Cam chain will rattle at low RPM's. APE makes a manual cam-chain tensioner you can get them on ebay for like $40-$50. install is easy, basically it keeps the cam chain tensioner at a constant tension eliminating the rattle. And the best part is, the manual one will never go bad. check out ebay or www.cbrzone.com. LMK if you have any other questions.

Re: Cam chain tensioner

welcome to the honda F model. F4 do the same @ 4-5 grand. Most people get manual tensioners to eliminate the prob.. however its not gonna kill anything if you just ignore it. I have, and no probs have arised.
