1. a camera that has the built in capability to do so (i.e. a USB connection)
2. a device that accepts RCA connectors and has a USB cable out, you can purchase that at Circuit City (probably other places but I've only seen it a CC)
To edit the video, you can use Windows Movie Maker. It comes with Windows XP, but I think you can download it for any other version of Windows. Its really easy and allows you to do just about anything . . . but save anytime you change something cuz it locks up mad easy

Typically.. what u pay for is what u get...... easy and basic is a firewire card...

Actually bro, just buy a $15 Firewire cable, and if you're just starting use the Windows Movie Maker. It's step by step on how to get it off. If you use the USB that came with it, it will take forever. Your camera should have a firewire port and the cable is relatively cheap and well worth the time you will save not using the USB that came with it.

I use Vegas Video and luv it...Easy as hell to use...
Used Premiere for a bit but just a little to much....
Also tried Pinnacle that isnt to bad...But VV is the shiat to use..
You need a Vid cam that has USB 2.0 or a firewire port (1394)...Your PC also has to accept Firewire or USB 2.0....These connections can either be on the motherboard or Video card..If you dont have that then you need to buy a firewire card which should run about $30 - $80 pending on the bundled s/w..
This simply allows the connection between PC and camcorder..Then its up to the video software to use that connection to control the camcorder and download the required footage..
Cheers

Yeah what they all said....but if you want to really put some **** together that you are really satisfied with. Spend some money and spend some time learning the programs and the computer that you are working on…I also recommend that you try and find some classes on the programs that you are using…check out the local community colleges most of them have classes on editing…I use Apple format Final Cut Pro 4, I also have friends that Vegas Video 4 and Avid and they are all great, awesome programs…just take some time to learn the programs that you are using and have fun doing it…
