What exactly would you consider Long wheelies on a 900rr?
Done alot of searching on here about the 900rr and motors blowing from long wheelies and oil starvation. I ve also seen alot about moving the oil sump. That seems complicated and costly. So what Im wondering is what is considered to be to long or at what point might you be causing damage. Thanks in advance for any inputs..

i can do bout 3 miles or so then my arm hurts to the point i cant pull the clutch, i am also 30 pounds over weight so im sure that dont help my arm problem. i have been filling my bike to 5 quarts, so its full on the kickstand, i also change oil once a month and use spectro only, dont use car oil. i stay away from the synthetic spectro that seemed to ruin the shifter seal. the best advice for highway wheelies is not to over rev, i have down one up 9 sprockets and at 55mph i usualy rev at about 6 or 7 grand. i have popped alot of motors, the usual cause is forgetting to check the damned oil, and running low. all bikes burn a little oil, and the older the oil the more it burns, so change that **** often.

thanks for the info greatly appreciate it. Only concern is it being full on the kickstand is that not overfilling it and wouldnt that cause problems? I ve always thrown some extra in my bikes but not that much. I ve always just filled it till the site glass was full when it was straight up.

for a RR you ONLY need 4 full quarts...5 is overdoing it and i think i was told that overfilling too much can cause damage...
biggest no no on a RR is burnouts on the bar...once you do this even once, imho your motor is junk...just plain riding on the bar (yes i still think that slow bar tricks are stupid) is also horrible for it...
over the years, i've watched plenty (30+) RR's wheelie for miles and miles, with no problems...check the end of DTE2 and tell me how long chauncey wheelies that RR!!

I've always put 5 in mine as well, never had a problem. Maybe a compromise is best, put 4.5 in there. I don't think putting too much in is going to blow any seals, there is still plenty of room in there for pressure.

I had 5 quarts in my 929 on a highway wheelie. after a while I filled the airbox full of oil, which sucked it in the motor & that **** smoked like it was on fire. Couldn't see 3 lanes of traffic - some spy hunter ****.
So to much oil & i'll puke out of the crank vent into the air box.

same thing here, i thought for sure that I launched a motor. Smoked filled the entire highway - I almost took the motor out of it & put a new one in - took the airbox cover off - **** looked like jiffy lube.
Cleaned that **** out & kept on truckin'.

Run a remote line away and out of the air box(like in the tail section somewhere) and have the tube sealed to a shampoo bottle. When the bottle gets full of oil just dump it back in the motor, rinse and repeat.

Once again thanks to all for the insightful replies, Just picked this bike up and last thing I want to do is blow a motor..
Now Teach mentioned riding on the bar causing problems.. how bout riding out slow wheelies would that cause the same problem?? Either way you d be pretty high up there.

I never had any problems with my 96 900RR. It's the older one's you have to watch out for. My friend had a 93 it only had 8,000 miles on it and his **** blow up after 12ing it for 2 months. **** my 96 as about 28,000 on it and it still runs strong. :YEAH
